Diary of Pain

Postby Nether » Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:23 pm

The burning husk of the once vibrant kingdom illuminated the night sky behind him as the Demon walked slowly into the awaiting shadows. His breath pulsed slowly before him as his eyes pierced the dark veil of night. The moon Watched silently as he worked his way through the thick tangled under brush, his steps making little to no noise on the dead leaves that littered the ground.

Dark blood oozed sluggishly out of the wounds on his back, his eyes blazing brightly. The time had come for a search of sorts. The past few months in the service of the Legion had served its purpose. It allowed the Demon to gather his thoughts as well as his strength and in the dusk of its destruction he set out to settle the part of his past that refused to let go of him.

He was determined to search out and find what he had lost long ago, The Reality.

His eyes narrowed as he scanned the desolate marsh. Dead stumps littered the ground as strange flying beasts circled over ahead, thier haunting calls echoing softly in the distance like sky bound wales sailing effortlessly in the darkening sky. His footsteps slowly filled with murky water as he paced the same spot over and over. He knew this place, he knew it well, however, the tower that once stood defiantly before all who beheld it, was completly gone.

He closed his blazing eyes as faint images passed before his mind. All the familiar sights smells and sounds passed through his brain as if it were real. He half expected to be inside the living fortress when he opened his eyes. Yet, when thier flames escaped the heavy frost laden lids, there was nothing. A slight sigh escaped his lips as he left this place, his direction of travel unknown even to himself.

His eyes danced below closed lids as he walked some unseen, unknown path.

Arias

The words left his mouth softly as though he were calling out to the night, begging for the old man who owned that name to appear beside his side as he once did long ago.

As he opened his eyes and peered to his side, he saw nothing. A harsh reality that he had allowed himself to escape, if only for a fleeting moment, came rushing back in waves. The destruction of the old land, the voyage accross the sea, the search for somthing familiar, and the disappoint of realizing that once again he was alone, on his own.

Despite his outward appearence and attitude he loathed being alone. He no longer found solice among the darkness. The shadows no longer caresed his cold skin as they once did in the old world. This new land was a shell, an empty shell. He could feel himself bouncing off its thin walls.

Looking up he realized he had entered a forest of sorts. The skeletons of long dead trees towered into the sky, a slight breeze rattling through thier boney fingers. The sound echoed through out his mind, momentarily flushing out all thought.

The water rippled slightly below his feet as he walked accross the lake, his wieghtless form going unnoticed by the water and the beings that resided with it. His mind raced, as always, as her voice echoed through out his head.

Nether......

His eyes closed and his fists clenched as the muscle of his jaw began to quiver.

Come to me Nether...

His eyes opened ubruptly as a bolt of lighting struck the water's surface. He held his pale skin up before his face and watched as slighty charges jumped from his flesh and dissapeared into thin air.
The fire in his eyes slowly died away, revealing pure white orbs. As the air swirled about him the milky orbs were flooded with swirling purple until they were changed completly.

After a few moments he continued forth, hurrying to get off the water before he reverted to his old self completly.

He stepped heavily onto the bank as the wind began to die down slowly. His breath shallowed slightly as drops of water began to fall from the darkened sky. Lighting once again struck the water behind him as he turned. He watched as a gyser of super heated liquid gushed forward as the water and electricity met again and again.

Steam rolled off the water's surface as the air was filled with the sound of a slight sizzle before a clap of thunder exploded all about him . He could feel the sound in his chest as trees shook and rocks shifted.

Stiffening he looked to his hands once more, for the first time in decades the Demon could feel the wind on his flesh and the humidity in the air. He could feel the muggy stickyness that accompanies most storms.

He watched as color returned to his body, the ice coating his flesh melting and falling away silently.

Violet runes began to etch themselves into his newly thawed flesh. His swirling purple orbs watched breathlessly as they bled then healed then scared.

These symbols...He knew them once. Thier meaning danced on the outskirts of his memory like smoke in the wind. Desperatly he reached out for them only to watch hoplessly as they slipped through his fingers.

Again and again he tried, only to find that his efforts were in vain, so for now he ignored them.

With one last glance at the torrenting water, he turned and walked away. The wind biting at his face, the ground tugging at his body in a way he though lost to him forever.
