Steven,

That was some of the most refreshing game discussion I've seen in a while.

Some people might be wondering why he would let the cat out of the bag so to speak but really he isnt. Another important facet of the game is being able to preempt your opponent and get into his head. Why is it that some guilds always seem to know what is coming a day before everyone else?

Part of the answer is found in Steven's posts so far, part of it is found in various other Unity guild threads and the rest of the answer lies in knowing your opponent.

If everyone starts playing exactly like Steven just described do you think his guild would suffer? Not likely because he would know precisely what to expect. That the community in general would start playing better would only elevate those that think this game to a higher level.

Hmm... ok that all sounds like bullshit but it's too early in the morning and those that do what I'm trying to explain know exactly what I'm talking about.

Remember "our game, our rules"? That sentence alone won us some wars without a single turn used.

Truth.

Your goal is to create a situation that forces your enemy guild to freeze up for a little bit.

also, the goal of your first strike shouldn't necessarily be to take as much land as possible.

there are many players who lead warchats with the intention of attempting to maximize the number of acres their guild can take - and often it just means that they suffer higher losses because they were unwilling to make use of tools like sorc and scum.

personally, the way i approach a warchat is that i want to minimize their ability to deal damage to us. if you deal damage to them and they are unable to deal damage back to you, then by default you've won.

of course, you always have to keep an eye on what the rest of the game is doing - every day you spend at war, heathen guilds that aren't at war get stronger, while your turns are wasted attacking the enemy.

[edit]oh yeah, and in addition to what steven said about how a parkinglot is better than 3k kingdom, don't downsize your open land after you've been parkinglotted.

Yeah that's great advise... just let the enemy pry it from your fingers or sit on your ass and don't give allies support and hope they don't CS your army to bits and take your land.

Maybe a HUGE PL you can get by with it... but honestly if i'm 40 acres and I'm lotted to shit I'm dropping at least 20k of that or... hiring someone to help redistribute it to other members of my guild.

And if your in a war you just made your enemies job easier. Now they don't have to waste turns on you and move on to the next target.

Don't worry Nagash, I know who did what. ;> I'm just using TNE and Torkano as an example. Perhaps people will feign interest if I mention celebrity guilds and players. haha

In addition to forcing your enemy to waste turns on a parking lotted realm. You create a situation that gives your GM one last good use of your realm. A realm with 40k or even 20k has more potential than a 3k acre realm. You can still hit with greater force than a 3k acre realm AND hit with less turns. You can generate more cash to pass off to your allies than a 3k acre realm. You can hold way more troops than a 3k acre realm. So in the end, why bother downsizing? When you've exhausted the realm and it can not fort anymore. That's when you can downsize. (assuming you aren't dead of course).

Btw... I remember there are a lot of indiviuals who do not know how sab caravans work.

If realm A is sabbed. He or She CAN NOT send out caravans for it will be intercept it. HOWEVER. This does not stop B C and D from sending caravans to A. A will still be able to recieve it.

Btw Nagash, I'm going to kill you. :)

There's some good stuff in here though, which new GMs might find useful information. Not sure if we still have new GMs, but sod that

I know several old GM's that could make use of it, and War AGM's for that matter.

It helps me even though most of it is stuff i already know since it's pretty much the way i was taught how to play. I've just never actually spent much time having to run or coordinate a strike.

But as someone else said activity is a lot of it. Even the best strategy won't help if you can't count on people to be active.
I think one of the important things mentioned is how predictable some are. It never helps you if the heathens know what your up to.

Nice tips Steve, altho I do agree with Virch. Do an uphit and I'll stand up and take notice.

Haha, I guess I should add another strat now.

Prior to hitting a guild. Downsize all your troops and wait 20 minutes for the scrolls to update. Once your networth decreases to a suitable amount. hit a guild so that you can cleverly say YES. What a massive up hit.

But I like this one better.

Make sure only half your guild is fluffed. So that when any guild hits you. You can constantly bug em about how the other guild didn't sufficiently up hit.

My last war with DoC, they had 2 out of 3 advantages. good enough for me. :)

There are plenty of threads to complain about people hitting up, down, or sideways this shouldn't be one of them.

parking lots are fun, no point in downsizing, they are a bitch to maintain, but you can always anchor, dissent hit, then refluff

even if its 20k acres you can still fluff up like what 6k t4? if you d/s your open ladn to like 3k acres, well you just gave your enemy 1 less realm to fear about.

i've played almost one whole age with a 52k acres parking lot (well not really a lot lot ) with barely around 1k barracks and it works great, bundes knows it ;)

Here i'll add our strat.... Declare on the wrong guidl while making a trie 80kANW uphit and 5 member uphit then continue the strike even without being able to declare guild war having to kill realms for your breakers to be able to declare on others. That's always fun.

That is one of the reasons I quit playing, Venus. Even supposedly nice helpful threads are rarely more than a thinly veiled excuse to insult people.

I am the first person to say "If ypu aint got something nice to say, come sit by me". But I won't play a game with those people. Games are supposed to be fun. Constant insults aren't fun.

that's bang on.

chances are, if the enemy guild PLed you, they aren't going to start csing you that evening.

do you know how retarded that would be?

i think i have maybe done that once - when i got 100% strike attendance (as in, actually every member of the guild i was running warchat for), when i was expecting more like 50%, and we ran out of targets to hit because some of the enemy were overfluffed on scum and we didn't have to break much.

I'm not a friggin noob When I think of PL I think of the realms I've had where people get real zealous and leave me with 1k or 2k built land on a 50k acre realm. When war is over if I have a build rate of 4 and I'm sitting on 52k open of 53k land I'm going to DS the land to build back. Or I'll hure Mum to redistribute it to another player who can better use it. I'm not talking if I have 5 or 6k built. If i have enough built to at least train at least 300 to 5th level in a turn or so I'll keep it. But No I'm not suggesting you DS all the open land in a war... I'd rather the enemy have something to throw turns at.
