Canon: The Mortal King
Evernight Games Presents

Quick Start Guide

Startup Tips

- Every player starts the game with a 500 acre kingdom, under new player protection. While under this protection, the length of which is normally 80 turns, you are protected against enemy actions against your kingdom. You are also unable to send money to other kingdoms until you leave new player protection.

- Take advantage of new player protection while it lasts. For those 80 turns, you do not need to maintain an army. Most players will build up their kingdoms without troops for a great deal longer than this, only hiring their army when their kingdom's economy is developed enough to be worth protecting.

- Each game is around two months long, so it is worthwhile looking at the bigger picture when starting to build. Quarries/mines/mills determine how many buildings you can construct for each turn spent, so the more buildings of this type you construct at the start of the game (when the risk of being hit by other kingdoms is small), the fewer turns you have to spend constructing them later on to maintain a high build rate. Obviously if you can build 20 buildings per turn and your rival can only construct 10 per turn, you have a great advantage in building a kingdom.

- The quickest and best way to learn how to play is to contact experienced players and learn from them. To do this, you can either join a guild or request a coach in the New Player Area forum of our community messageboard, Temper's Ball. Many members of the community have offered to spend time coaching new players over instant messengers here.

- Guildhalls can be destroyed by enemy 'steal' menu actions, so it is best to avoid basing the majority of your economy on this building. Temples can also be destroyed in this manner, so it is wise to keep a sizeable amount of 'scum' troops to hand, even (especially!) in times of peace.
