I saw you as something more than the mages son... and I still do.
So much had happened, there was still so much to understand, so much to get passed but Devyn knew without doubt or question that Kyle was a better man than those born before him, that he was good and loyal, true and compassionate. His heart was made with a great capacity to love and he chose to love her. How could anyone doubt him or think him the same as his kin? She wouldn't stand for it, her mother wouldn't stand for it and Devyn was blessed enough to have a father with not only the heart of a lion but also a rational, understanding mind.
You can't let what some in my family think Kyle, hell someone is always at odds with someone else, it's just the way of it in my family, we're so big we cannot all get along all the time and we aren't always going to agree with each other either. The point is the only one you should concern yourself with... the only one whose thoughts of you should matter are mine. Well maybe my parents too, my father could snap you in half and my mother could drink you dry but you are lucky, they like you and have accepted you as part of the family. So no more worries and no more talk of guilt. You have nothing to feel guilty about.
He then asked her a question that she wasn't quite sure how to answer. Devyn loved Kyle, she knew that but how could she tell him that she wasn't ready for marriage yet without making him think she was pushing him away or rejecting him? Sighing she turned on her back and looked up at the ceiling.
Would I want to get married? Someday, but not yet. Too much has happened, too much is still happening, we all need time to adjust and to settle. I love you Kyle there is no denying that but right now, at this moment I'm just ready to be a wife. I kind of like this whole living in sin deal we have going...
She glanced over to him not sure what his reaction was going to be.
I don't need any laws, or papers to tell me that I belong with you, that I belong to you, we've survived living this way so far and the gods haven't stricken us down yet... I'm not saying I never want to get married, I'm just saying I'd like to wait a little while...
