I deleted the poll because it was unanimous and kept those that didn't want to log in from veiwing the thread. It was 37 for to 0 against.
No matter if you've been here for five days or five years, you already have memories here of some type. If it's the five days it's the great flame controversy that will not be over any time soon (I'm thinking about what I want to say for my next post a I type this.) I've been one of the ones that's been here for five years. Does that make me anymore important than anyone else? Nah. Does it make me feel at home? Yes. My little home here in this community is wonderful.
Now, every once in a while you will see someone post a reminiscence of what was. The 70's Portal, Stargaze, Tashee, VV, RR, Gold, Gamewise, The women's hut, "ALL PRAISE ME YOU HEARD." Those are just a just a very few examples of what has gone on in this game. I joined a game called Aldebaran that was in fact Monarchy and I didn't even know it for the month I was playing until I was recruited into a guild because of my unorthodox strategy (that was highly successful.) I mean, how many people knew about Aldebaran? How many know why there was an alternate game on another server?
See, in five years with literally thousands of players, there is more to know here then dates and times. Evernight has a history. It spans multiple names, servers, gods, games, guilds, races, etc. There has been so much forgotten that it's ridiculous. However, like any community, it is our history. It is worth telling for reminiscing, trivia, and overall knowledge for those that care... or might be bored. --Thinks-- Hmm, that might be dangerous.
Anyway, I was thinking of all this and how it would be nice to have it told: The Complete History of Evernight. From its conception by a couple of pond digging, beer drinking fellas in GA? (See, facts need to be expunged) to the current recode of a five plus year old game and the community that exists with it. Oh, and not only the facts, but what the players remember.
See, I want this to be a journalistic and complete history with interviews, questioners and pictures even (I know there are some out there that still can't read.) I am not talking about having folks post in a few threads and then putting it all together. I'm talking researchers, fact checkers, writers and proof readers (No, you can't be the publisher. I think it's obvious who that will be. Oh, and no, not the editor, I thought of it, I'm the one that's going to sink my precious free time into this project.)
Now, first, don't reminisce here and now in this thread. I want to know if there is genuine interest in something like this. I figure it will be at least a six month project. I know everyone is busy so I don't expect it to roll on out or you to use all of your free time if you volunteer. I do want those that are serious about this community and can give what they say they can. In other words, I want those that stand behind their word and commitment. Again, I understand time constraints. I work two jobs, carry 14 hours and have a few hobbies and a social life (not sure on the last one.) However, I think this would be a great project to work on.
I think I'm looking for 4 to 5 writers total. Mykayla has said she will be one. It is up to the writers if they want to help with the interviewing and the fact finding. I probably need 4 people for interviewing and fact finding. I will need about 5 proof readers (one per writer.) Of course, jobs might overlap and there will be times when there is little to do before you are given your next assignment. I don't want too many more people than that because it is over the internet and it will be a lot of work for me. However, I do want to let as many people help as want to and be able to spread the work load around. Again, this is not an over night project. Honestly, I figure a year.
Why a year? I want to track down as many old players to interview as possible. I will need to get outlines, charts, "chapters" etc. It will require brainstorming and organization... and reorganization... and reorganization... and...
Ugh... --smiles-- It sounds like fun.
Now again, do not reminisce in here. This thread is too see the amount of interest overall and who might want to volunteer. I DO UNDERSTAND TIME CONSTRAINTS. So, if you really want to and think you can give a few hours a week, then come on. BUT, don't volunteer if you are not serious. Please point all that you can into this thread from all forums and all ICQ, email lists etc. There are some that might really want to see this that don't have the time to come in here often.
If there is enough interest this will be something the whole community can be proud of.
--crosses fingers and hopes there are enough people interested.--
