She jerked back a little surprised to hear that law enforcement other than the Elite were involved in Paytens missing persons case but then when she thought about it Nathean was military so they would be involved too. She looked up at Payne and saw something she had only seen once before. Fear mixed with worry and rage. The fear and worry were manageable it was the rage that she knew could take over and make someone to truly fear. She never believed he would ever hurt her but she didn't want him to get pushed to that point. She knew when to be a hard ass, and when to let her softer side take over, now was the time for the princess known for her gentleness and compassion to step in. Gently she unfolded his arms from around her, took his hand in hers and led him to her bed, pushing him down just as gently as she had taken his hand then went to the chest of drawers across the room to retrieve sleep pants and a sleeveless shirt.
She went back to him and stood in front of him then keeping the shirt in one hand she slid her hands over his damp shirt pulling it up along the way revealing skin covered in her work little by little until the shirt was off. She leaned over and pressed her lips against the inked copy of those same lips.

I did not like this at all there was no ransom no anything as far as the younger Payten went. Payten youngest child to Valiant and Sophie if still alive was in trouble. We had our best on it and they were not coming up with anything. Lelani and Payne had both insisted Royal Prossi had something to do with it but we lacked the one thing we needed the proof. I know I do not believe it but what if Nathean's demon form took over we know some of the family has a rather twisted demon side. Even then though it would not explain the call. We have tracers put on all the phones we possibly could but without the right amount of time it would never do us any good at all.

I had stopped myself about the demon form because every one of us in Demon form still would not hurt the woman that we loved. I looked over at her and smiled. Maybe there was more that could be done.


They are saying he killed her but there is no evidence not a drop of blood or anything anywhere right. The police got called but why? A few calls saying that there was arguing and threats. Can we get those tapes pulled? I am sure Amber already thought of that though. There has to be more answers even if we do not know all the questions. The biggest question of all is who has her.

It was just a nightmare Payne, nothing to worry about, nightmares end as soon as someone opens their eyes.
She was laying beside him now, her head in the crook of his arm near his shoulder, the feeling she had while in her nightmare was fading because she was awake and the reality was that Payne was there with her, warm and alive. Still she couldnt help but think about the other casket in her dream, she didn't see who was in the second one and she was fighting against thinking about it. Payne was her main concern at that moment. Yes she was worried about Payten, how could she not be? But at the same time, Payne was the one who was out there looking for her day in and day out, Payne was the one losing sleep, not eating right, pushing himself harder and harder to find his sister and having to deal with his twin at the same time.
You've never liked the idea of Nathean and Payten because you want the best for your sister but Payne you know, all it takes is one look at Payten to know that Nate is who is best for her. She loves him and he loves her, and Nate is not a shady man with hidden motives and secret agendas. Payten is everything to him, and from what I've heard he hasn't given a thought to his own circumstances, all he wants is out so he can find his wife.
She and Payne were not typical, they pushed each others buttons, teased each other unmercifully, fought and made up, and rarely said those three words to each other. More often than not if one of them said those words the other would come back with either "bullshit" or "damn liar" on their lips but the truth was Rena knew that Payne loved her, and Payne knew she loved him, that was all that really mattered. But on nights like now, when the air was filled with something that told the world to step back appreciate what one had, it was so easy for them to speak of their feelings.
I don't know what you'd do without me either, but I'm going to tell you what you aren't doing without me anymore Payne. See when Valiant was younger he was forever in the trees. In fact back in the day his constant companion in the trees was none other than the woman that was now his wife. I went and got the food making sure that the new woman was gone. I brought the food in the room all the meat was cut up as instructed with my hands the way they were I could not cut meat. So I walked to see what she was up to.

Nathean may or may not have a demon but that is irrelevant Losa, it really is. He is Connor and Deamons by blood and we know that every single last Shadow, Deamons, and Ethrrorian with demon blood in them have never... never turned their demon on their mates, and while Connors have been known to be vicious with their mates...

I was asking because the way you looked and everything. Some nightmares end when eyes are opened and some are just shown to be reality and not really a nightmare at all.

I was getting frustrated more and more. There was nothing really that pointed us in any direction. The only thing that we were sure of was Payten was alive or was she. My mind started running. My thoughts kept going. With her laying there like that with me I had to smile.

I did not want her to have to wake up to the news of this attack on the marines or that attack on the marines and have to bury her husband. There is nothing that I worry about more for her than her having to do that. I know that she cares for Nathean a great deal and that he does for her as well. But don't you think this was all a bit rushed as well. I am starting to wonder if we ever will find her.

I was being realistic there were no leads there was nothing other than our feelings that Prossi was involved. One phone call where all she could say was she was okay. There was nothing more, and I had to wonder why. Why would there be nothing more if she was okay. Now the things was also if she was okay the person who had her was not not asking for ransom. Then again it would have to be about revenge or something personal for there not to be ransom involved. I sighed and leaned my head against hers.

Those four hands down, they should have been on this from day one.

There were some of the younger generation that came to mind as well, each had their own talent, their own specialty, but the truth is I had reservations about some of them. The old ways for whatever reason seemed lost on some of them especially some of the younger ones.

There was no question in my mind at all about Leyla she was her mother and her fathers child, a perfect blend of them both in all ways.

You can't reach the damn elf and I can't reach Con, you know what this means right? Nana and Poppa are up to something. Probably Con keeping an eye on the elf. after all these years we know she cannot just sit back. Especially not when you know her grandson probably called her. Just as if something happened and Shade called us we would not sit idle. I think Shade could handle helping on this. Saydie I know is out, Leyla is a good choice because of her background. I think the ones you mentioned are fine. We need to let Valiant and Sophie know. Valiant is going to want to be there as will Payne and Lelani. Nathean cannot go as much as we know he needs to go as much as we all know he needs to be there. It would give a problem with the terms of him being able to be here. Unless, we could switch the monitoring device without them knowing.

When I started pacing again it was names coming to mind. We could not have this be a big thing, but we knew it was important. We did not know what type of security they had and Kristian was working an angle himself already. A smile crept across my face as I thought about the outlanders. With a shake of my head it made me think.

Prossi I am sure has done his homework on the family. But there is a factor so few know about. The outlanders, this will also let us see how well we meshed them together so far. If we send in everyone that is known than Prossi might be able to tell. I need the fact sheet on Prossi, I am sure there is something that we can use. Since we know she is not back yet and that he is still alive that her demon has not awoke. There is something he is doing to keep from that happening. I need Drake to run something for me.

As soon as I had Drake on the phone I told him I needed him to hack Prossi's databases and get me every bit of info from phone calls to credit cards to his security systems and all.

Orry was pacing the floor of the "tech room" at the Hall of Shadows, the tech room being the base of operations for security and various other functions for the Elite. It was already being said that many of the Elite believed that Royal Prossi was the one behind Paytens disappearance, the rumor amazingly enough had not reached the outside world and that was enough for Orry to believe that it wasn't just a rumor, if it was actually being kept within the fold then it had to have some sort of truth to it. She stopped pacing long enough to lean down close to the ear of the man in the chair working furiously at some sort of coding.
Think about it. Prossi is still insisting on some damn meeting with Shadowheart, personally I think he's got a hard on for Jules, as if she'd ever let him anywhere near her like that, and Falcon would have him six feet under before he could even get close enough to breathe on her... my point is...
She turned the chair around so he could see her face and she could see his.
Shadowheart could get close enough to Prossi to at least get a sense of what he's up to. Falcon would be able to sniff Paytens scent on him if he's been anywhere near her, Jules might even be able to get something out of him, even if it's just some veiled subtle hint. He has no idea that we know anything, and I'd just be there for back up so to speak. All I know is this waiting and not doing much of anything is making me a little loopy Connor. I said the statement rather matter of factly. Did Losa forget who we were? What we were? There were so many different ways to get to Royal Prossi now that my king decided he had had enough. I know that Annie would jump at this, and so would Casey, but I also know that Casey is still adjusting to his new way of living now that Gracie has come to her damn senses.... this is her off week.... I was packing my bag going over everything we had been told in my head, thinking it had been a very long time since Phillip, Jonathan, Kira and I had all been sent out, especially together and I had to admit I was looking forward to seeing Kira and Phillip working together again. I know you probably think I'm out of my mind for thinking that but the truth is Phillip and Kira together professionally are indescribable. It took a long time for the two of them to trust each other again as far as working together but that is all in the past and the two of them act like kids in a candy store when they are sent out together now. Phillip caught my attention when he stepped into our bedroom dressed in black jeans and a black t-shirt, we still have uniforms for the Elite but they weren't needed in this case, so we dressed in black everyday clothes.
I've already talked to the girls. Evie is surprised we werent called for sooner. Kate sounds a hundred times better, and she spending the rest of today with Shade before he heads out tonight. You ready then? What time were we supposed to meet with Kira and Jonathan again?

You are right about Casey and Gracie, I know Casey would come if we needed him. Annie's new found lack of tolerance could come in handy though. The others will be ready I already put Shade on alert to be ready to move. I know Shade is ready for this when with the outlanders he showed some real fine skills. You should have seen him in action at times.

I had great pride in my grandson as I had in all those that followed in my line. I smiled at my wife, it was amazing after all these years the way we were. The way we always had been sure there were games and all but this time it was different every time had something different.

So the only question is where are we going to be while all this goes down?

Well that is an idea what if we expand on it some. See we all know Prossi is going to have security out the ass. If Shadowheart does agree to a meeting. Well what would you think the chances of Jules agreeing to an idea would be. We all know that Prossi is injured and can't play. Nothing is to say that he can't sing. I know for a fact that Prossi has a studio in his house. What if we went with your idea and Jules agreed to sing with him you playing guitar of course for a cut for an album? Thing being is because of the sensitivity of wanting to keep such a project a secret that only certain people would be allowed to know. He probably gave his sound booth guys time off and everything.

I had finished up the coding I was doing and Drake was working on the other thing which was almost done. I looked at her my eyes meeting hers. The idea had come to me, and yes the combination idea would be some thing to go on.

With a little parlor magic Drake and I could be changed some. We could go in and find a way to disable anything that Prossi has. Yes Falcon would smell Payten if she was near Prossi at all. But with what I am sure they are already planning taking out the electricity for a short time would allow entry. This could help them if Kiara and Losa will go for it

I was grinning at my wife and I leaned over and kissed her deeply. That was something to still go over in my mind. I had a wife again and one that I had loved for so long. I smiled over at her and my hand was now in hers. She would let me do my work as I would let her do hers. We worked well together also, and always had so okay the way I went about getting her the first time was not so good. Hugh was not so happy about it but I really don't care what the old man thinks honestly.

I at times wonder about if it is good for Shade to be hanging around her so much. With all that she has been through I just want our daughter to be happy. I know that both our girls are grown and will make up their own minds about who to love and who to spend time with. I can't help but be protective of them especially after what happened. She could have died, then again look at all that I have done as well. So I just do not want anything to happen to either of them and I want them to be happy in their life and their loves.


I know we had other things to do and I was getting the few things that I would need. I was watching her as she was gathering things together. I grinned at her some. I always had to, it was thought for a few years that Ardis and Trifton would marry but something had changed that. They still were at odds in some ways, and it even showed in how our daughter and Cameron had felt the need to sneak around about their relationship. I was smiling as I looked at her.

We are to meet them in the council room remember Kiara and Losa want to meet with us. The most important thing here is finding Payten and bringing her home. I saw Nathean on his way in and well he does not look so good. It looks like someone put him through a ringer a few times. I am surprised it took this long as well but what probably did it was someone got tired of the games and not knowing.

I looked at Kate, if it was her I would want everyone my Grandfather had confidence in going in to save her. I know some think it is just because I am his Grandson that he gives me assignments. That was not the way he worked. For a long time Kate and I had gone in circles that there is a long story. I have been her friend and constant companion since the night Daman flipped. I would never have thought Daman capable of that. He is some relation somewhere to me. That is a whole other story. I leaned to kiss Kate and smiled at her.

You sure you are going to be okay Kate? I am not sure how long this assignment will take. I know he is saying a get in get Payten if she is there and get out. But we all know that things can go wrong.

I was looking at her my finger tracing her jawline, so long we have been a part of each other's life. So long games were played, and now those games were done with.
