In the darkest hour of what had become the darkest night of Ilianas dark life the black robe slipped from the bed cautiously, moving so slowly that surely a snail could have beaten her in any race. That night, after nearly two months of pretending to be the loyal pet who would do whatever was asked of her Iliana had come face to face with her deepest darkest fears. Alistar had sent for her unexpectedly, while she was locked away in the study that had once belonged to Kiara and Losa, and would one day be reclaimed by the true King and Queen of Pallia gods willing. It was that night that Cyranda Jane had once again thrown one of her perfect fits, railing against who she believed to be Losa, shutting him down time and again when he tried to offer some sort of solace as any good "kin" would, though Iliana knew that solace was just as much a game as the game that Iliana had been playing for the better half of a year. Sometimes Iliana thought she was going to lose herself in the disguise she wore, the darkness that surrounded her had become stronger, it's pull harder but in her heart she knew she could never surrender. Surrender. That word echoed through her mind when her feet were finally on the floor, she stole a quick glance back at the man in the bed beside her. How easy it would be to simply take the life of the False King, who had thrown Pallia into such chaos and now ruled like a tyrant over the lands that had once truly been free. Taking Alistars life however would only destroy any chance of her uncle returning to his body and while nothing would have given her more pleasure than killing Alistar while he slept, she could not. War had come to Pallia as was planned and unbeknown to Alistar, the deaths of the remaining royal blood line had been staged just as the death of the Queen had been staged. So long as that bloodline survived there was hope. What Iliana had not been expecting though was for Alistars allies to surrender so easily, but then she realized the true nature of Alistars plan. He would disguised as Losa triumph over their enemies endearing the people of Pallia to him even more... and then he unleashed his own brand of hell declaring martial law, executing any who spoke out against him. The people of Pallia were "saved" from one nightmare only to be thrust into another and Iliana stood at the "kings" side through it all. Soundlessly she slipped into the black robes that she wore and found her own sort of solace in, when the black velvet touched her bare skin she had for the briefest of moments been able to forget what had happened in that room. Placing black velvet slippers on her feet she padded across the room the hem of her robes rustling softly against the floor sounded like the beating of drums to her ears and for a moment she thought that Alistar was going to wake and question where she was going. She already had an answer in her mind, which was not so far from the truth. There were rumors of an uprising, "rebels" who had managed to escape Alistars heavy hand and wrath, those of the Elite who chose to remain in Pallia for whatever reason were on constant alert and Iliana often made the excuse to Alistar when she would ask to be excused from his side that she was merely making inquiries with their allies as to any progress they made in locating the band of outlaws. Thankfully he did not wake and she was able to leave the room closing the door softly behind her. She walked quietly down the hall until she reached the stairs that led to the Great Hall, where she broke out into a run. Even the Hall of Shadows had been changed, gone were any reminders that Kiara or the royal children ever existed, the king would claim and reminders of his lost family was too painful, Iliana wanted to choke him. She ran until she reached the doors that would open up and lead to the caverns below where her father and Stryder were being held. Running down the stairs she stopped suddenly having come face to face with the men who were guarding the cells. They both bowed their heads to her giving the kings favored pet as so many called her when they thought she wasn't listening, the respect that was demanded from them. When they lifted their heads one looked at her almost suspiciously.
Lady Iliana... the hour is late... what need could you possibly have for coming here at such an hour?
Iliana turned her odd colored eyes fully on the man, the tone she spoke with was cool and laced with mild hostility.
What business is it of a common guards what I do with my time? I do not answer to you or any other save our King... would you like to wake him from his sleep and alert him to my presence here if you are so troubled by my being here? Or shall I wake him for you?
The guard paled at the empty threat giving Iliana the desired effect she had been looking for.
No my Lady, there is no need to wake the king...
Iliana lifted a hand and saw the guards shrink back some, it was well known by all that Iliana had taken the life of her own sister, if the black robe was capable of killing her own kin, she was capable of anything. With a cool smile she waved the guards off.
Leave us... now.
She saw the doubt in the eyes of the guards but when a small dot of flame appeared in her hand and began to grow larger they no longer found it necessary to question her. She waited until she was certain that the guards were gone and she went to her fathers cell.
Cyranda can no longer stay here, it is becoming too dangerous for her... Alistars interest in her has not waned and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find reasons for him to delay in calling for her. Father I cannot allow you your freedom but I can release Stryder and his wife... it will not be that difficult to claim the Hall was breached by this so called Phantom and his rebels and I will be able to offer the proof that Alistar needs to believe the lie... I have heard nothing from Kiara but Chase has gone to her with news of this specter. With each passing day Alistar draws me in closer and it is even more difficult for me to find moments of privacy to continue our works... he barely allows me to leave his side... even at night I am... guarded well. Something has to happen soon father.
