A time almost forgotten

It was cold here. The puddles that littered the stone floor were slightly frozen as he made his way down the winding stairs, his breath dimming his vision as it ushered forth past cracked lips. A cloth covered hand traced the wall carefully as he descended further into the catacombs of the ancient house, until finally he reached his destination.

The room was long and short, its ceiling barely four feet from the floor and reached nearly thirty-five feet from end to end. He had to stoop to move towards the back end of the room where a small wooden table lay surrounded by tomes and scrolls, each one covered in ages worth dust and decay. The little candles that lined the walls lit the room just enough to allow him to find his way towards the table.

With a sigh he slowly lowered his body into the chair where he sat for a few moments allowing his eyes to adjust to the dim light. Turning he faced the table and the massive tome that lay open on its surface. The pages were dirty and torn in places, the ink barely visible to his aging eyes. However, this was not a story he had to read, for he had imbued it into his memory long ago. His pale blue eyes rested silently on the withered pages the memory of the words seemingly floating in front of his face.

It was a story of a boy, a boy who would one day shake off the shackles of bondage and despair, and with the help of his unwavering faith, rise to overcome his oppressors.
There is no faith, love, or compassion where I will send you....
