Sorry, I have been kinda hectic and this is kinda sitting on the back burner due to time.

I also like a lot of Kar's ideas, and think we can probably work with it. When I get the chance, I'll summarise what he suggested into bullet points. We can then take things on from that 'list'.

Unless of course, someone fancies saving me a job, and summarises it into points for me.

I think that would be best left to the mastermind himself.

Hmm... bullet points you say...

ummm..... right.

i) Oleana, Goddess of the Earth, seeks to bring peace to Tonan

ii) Unable to achieve it alone, she is offered help by, and strikes a bargain with, the celestial powers that are embodied by the Moons and the Sun, sacrificing herself and her power to remove the elder pantheon and bring peace.

iii) Without Gods, the confused people of Tonan flock to the banners of Prophets (Solas, Dimas, Minas) who claim visions of newly emerging gods in the heavens.

iv) Confused by these visions, these prophets only inspire further conflict. However, the fragments of truth they speak aid in increasing the power of these newly emerging dieties.

v) The new pantheon (Foret, Isonia, Darden) emerge, and their power, combined with the work of 'the council' (perhaps originally consisting of the 3 prophets who finally 'saw the light') bring an age of peace to Tonan.

vi) Peace and contentment brings a lack of 'need' for gods, and in turn causes a waining in these new god's power.

vii) This eventually leads to the 'first sin' - the pact Oleana made sacrificing herself to remove the elder gods in return for peace in Tonan is broken - though powerless at first, the Elder gods are reborn.

viii) As the conflict between the gods of the younger pantheon grows, the pact is broken further and further and the power of the elder pantheon grows.

ix) Emerging only when ready, the elder gods, united by a desire to control the heavens once more wage a celestial war upon their successors, the effects of which are felt in Tonan itself, entire islands sunk by the physical backlash such celestial forces unleash.

x) Their power based more on echoes of power than on the belief of followers, it takes all the elder gods have to remove these younger usurpers... including their immortality.

xi) Relative peace comes to Tonan once again - people don't know who to war any more...

xii) Rumours spread of the elder gods reincarnated in mortal form. Armies without causes flock to their banners, old fires are reignited: We arrive where we are today.

xiii) Oleana ascended to heaven due to an outcry of desire and belief... now each mortal incarnation must attempt to do the same... hence the war i guess: Each mortal needs to gather as many believers as possible, so as to achieve ascendance... even if gaining them means taking them by force...

....

Was that the sorta thing you were looking for...?

Yeah, that was very helpful.

Ok, so I've taken those points and expanded on some vague areas, using ideas from the history of my own roleplay.

---------

The war between the Gods Barnabas and Leto and their sister the Goddess Angelique, had raged for countless centuries. Oleana, having risen to become a Goddess, has seeked for centuries to bring final and lasting peace to Tonan.

She is approached by Karoph, Voice of Numi, the ancient High Priest of a cult that had worshipped the power of Tonan's grey moon for thousands of years. Karoph tells Oleana that he knows of a way to inprison the Pantheon and bring peace to Tonan, but there is a cost. Oleana must sacrifice her Godhood to bind the others. In return for Oleana's power he promises that Numi, Soma and Intop would gaurentee the peace.

Realising their danger at the last, Angelique, Barnabas and Leto join forces in an attempt to remain unbound. Chosing the island Mo-Pri as the place they would make their last stand, they learn Oleana's sacrifice for peace was too great. The Gods were banished, and Mo-Pri obliterated.

Without Gods, the confused people of Tonan struggle to find meaning. When the prophets Mina, Diman and Solas claim visions of newly emerging gods, thousands flock to their banners. Soon the peace is broken by infighting between the prophets. The Voices of Numi, Soma and Intop arrange to have the prophets assassinated, but it is already too late.

The people have seen the power of the Moons and Sun start to worship Gods that they were promised. From their prayers Foret first forms, from the power of the grey moon Numi, Isonia is next from the power of the purple moon Soma. Finally, from the power of the sun Intop, comes Darden.

At first the Voices of the triad are able to stay close to the Gods. Peace is acheived and for a long while it remains, but time and memory do not mesh well together. The old Gods are forgotton, even the truth behind the source of the power of the new Gods is forgotton. Numi, Soma and Intop and their promise is forgotten. All that remains in memory are Foret, Isonia and Darden, and Tonan's peace.

A peace that would not last. Peace and contentment brings a lack of 'need' for gods, and in turn causes a waining in these new god's power, and then finally leading up to the 'first sin'. As their power starts to fade the Gods start to fight amongst themselves. The pact Oleana made, sacrificing herself to remove the elder gods in return for peace in Tonan is broken, and war errupts once more in the heavens, and on the earth below.

Though powerless at first, the Elder gods are reborn. As the conflict between the gods of the younger pantheon grows, the pact is broken further and further and the power of the elder pantheon grows. The war rages on between Foret, Isonia and Darden, blinded to the fact that the Old banished Gods have returned, they are caught unawares by the temporary alliance of the Elder three.

Emerging when ready, and unknown to the mortals below. Angelique, Barnabas and Leto unleash an surprise assault on the younger Gods. Maxim is destroyed in the first encounter. But, having still not seen the return of the Elder Gods, Foret, Isonia and Darden renew the assault on each other, blaming one another for the destruction of Maxim.

Knowing now the strength of the Younger Gods, Angelique, Barnabas and Leto bide they time, acumilating strength by accepting the souls of the dead caught up in the war between the Younger Gods. Finally, combining the echo of their former selves, and the power they had collected, the Elder Gods attack again. Sacrifising their own godhood, and destroying vast regions of Covenant, Valid and Guilds they destroy the Younger Ursurpers.

No longer urged to war by the Younger Gods, a relative peace returns once more to Tonan. Rumours start to spread about the return of Ancient Gods who came to destroy their younger cousins. Soon these rumours tell of these Elder Gods who had spared the war from war, being reborn in mortal form. Armies without causes start to flock to the banners of the Mortal Gods.

The throne of Heaven is empty, and the first to reach it will rule all. As Oleana once did, now each mortal-incarnation must struggle to ascend to immortality once more, with the first to do so likley to gain supreme power over heaven and earth.

Coolio...

Only thing i felt a little unease with was the idea of the elder gods destroying Maxim, but the younger pantheon not knowing about it... They are gods after all..

Perhaps an initial attack by the elder gods sees them fighting separately: not willing to combine their powers.

Their initial assault, while destroying Maxim in the backlash, essentially fails. The younger pantheon, believing the threat passed, continue their bickering - continue to degrade the pact that removed their predecessors and strengthening the elder gods once again.

Waiting until they are truly ready, they put their own differences aside. Attacking together, they over power the bickering gods one by one, the younger not willing to put their differences aside in the name of survival.

Foret was the first to fall. First born and first fallen. He welcomed the elder gods into his court in the heavens. So recently crushed, he saw them as no threat... Why not let them plead their case to him: to see if it was justified?
It was Angelique who argued their case: the silver tongue and swift mind of the mistress of justice intrigued Foret... so much so he didn't not notice Barnabas' sword until it pierced his godly heart.

Isonia would not fall without a fight. Her almighty battleaxe rent the heavens, and storms wracked the land below as she clashed with the Lord of War, Barnabas. Master of warriors though once he was, alone Barnabas was no match for the Goddess, and so honourable to last, accepting defeat, he offered up his sword to Isonia... while Leto slipped behind her and slit her throat.

Only Darden was left. Youngest and Cleverest, he knew now his only hope was to flee... But Heaven is not as big as you might expect, and so outnumbered it did not take long for the elder gods to find him.

He tried words, he tried to fight, he even tried to turn his opponents against one another... but at every turn the three siblings matched him. Cornered, he knew his end was coming... And so as Angelique stepped over him to carry out his sentence, he smashed his bowl.

Even as Darden fell, Heaven flooded with despair, washing over the elder gods, driving them backwards... downwards... to Tonan.

I like it!

Although, I must say I agree with Karhedron that the younger pantheon should probably know that the elder gods are back. I think that having the elder gods fighting separately would make the most sense... they could be defeated in one on one combat by their counterparts, and be forced to retreat to lick their wounds until they agree to work together to regain their former positions

This also helps to deal with the contradiction as to what happens with the souls of the dead, as in the Maxim storyline, it is explicity stated that the souls of the dead are given to the god whose follower did the kill.

Lets see...

Eventually, the pact made between Oleana and Numi, Soma and Intop was weakened by the constant conflict between Foret, Isonia and Darden, and the Elder Gods began to awake from their long slumber

Barnabas, the eldest, was the first to awaken, and as he rose, he flexed his once-powerful muscles and summoned his sword to him, surprised at its weight. He scanned the heavens until he found his opponent, the most powerful warrior among the new gods: Isonia.

As Barnabas left to fight Isonia, Angelique awoke, her mind clouded from aeons of slumber. Finding her counterpart, Foret, waiting in his court, Angelique left to challenge the first born to a war of words.

Finally, Leto rose from his sleep. Finding a worthy opponent in the clever Darden, Leto began to pursue the youngest god across the heavens.

Angelique met with Foret first, and skillfully tried to regain her former position through reason and logic. However, at every turn, her arguments were countered by the first born's words of justification. Furious, the goddess turned on her heel and left, shouting caustic words that caused the heavens to shake and covered the sky with dark, roiling clouds.

Barnabas and Isonia fought next, each trying to best the other in combat. The earth shook and lightning rent the heavens as their blades clashed, but eventually it became clear that Barnabas' long sleep had taken its toll, and he was forced to yield to Isonia. The victorious goddess allowed her foe to retreat, confident in her superiority.

Below, the people of Maxim, realising the magnitude of the conflict going on about them, made plans to leave the island in whatever way possible, whether by magic or by boat, the people began emmigrating in droves, their conflicts temporarially forgotten.

Darden fled from the lord of Chaos, reasoning that the best way to defeat his foe was to cause him to make a foolish mistake. Leto pursued Darden across the heavens, but alone he was always one step behind the younger, faster god. His angry roars shook the very foundations of the island of Maxim, and, while the inhabitants fled, the island sank into the sea as Leto, frustrated, gave up his search for Darden and went to seek out his siblings with a plan.

The elder Gods realized that alone, they could never defeat their younger counterparts. They had lost much of their power, and few believed in them anymore. However, together they stood a chance.

And now then, to borrow your excellent work, Karhedron... I'm just going to make a few changes to it to make it work with what I've suggested.

Foret was the first to fall. First born and first fallen. He welcomed the elder gods into his court in the heavens. So recently crushed, he saw them as no threat... Why not let them plead their case to him: to see if it was justified?
It was Angelique who argued their case for coexistance: the silver tongue and swift mind of the mistress of justice intrigued Foret... so much so he didn't not notice Barnabas' sword until it pierced his godly heart.

Isonia would not fall without a fight. Again, Barnabas challenged her to single combat, and the warrior goddess accepted. Her almighty battleaxe rent the heavens, and storms wracked the land below as she clashed with the Lord of War, Barnabas. Master of warriors though once he was, Barnabas remained no match for the Goddess, and, accepting defeat, he offered up his sword to Isonia... while Leto slipped behind her and slit her throat.

Its a little rough, but I'll come back and edit it with fresh eyes in a little bit and polish it a bit.

Ok, so based on Karhedron and Thepheonix's suggestions, the story becomes as follows.

Not sure where you got that from, didnt notice it in any of the remaining storyline stuff i found. Which can be seen here

While I like the way this is going, I'd like to see more of the Old Gods nature involved in the fight against their counterparts, Barnabas for example was more than a War God. I doubt his 'honour' aspects would care for the sneaky way Isonia was killed

I got it from the first post in that thread...

He was not alone, for both Isonia and Darden were experiencing the same in their own ways. Each of them became uneasy, as this discovery became the truth; their power was waning. Unbeknownst to the others, each of them began the plans for a growth in power. Each of them was finding ways to survive this certain death. It was known to the gods that in the wars before the current peace, the souls of those killed were given unto the god of the one who killed them. At the time, this had meant nothing, as the gods were not out for personal vengeance, but for peace. Now it meant another thing quite entirely.

I agree that Barnabas probably wouldnt be too thrilled by Leto's actions. I can think of a few different approaches to solving that problem, but I'll let Karhedron take a stab at it first. :)[/b]

Okay, guess Karhedron is busy. I'll take a stab at it, then.

The elder Gods realized that alone, they could never defeat their younger counterparts. They had lost much of their power, and few believed in them anymore. However, together they stood a chance.

Foret was the first to fall. First born and first fallen. He welcomed the elder gods into his court in the heavens. So recently crushed, he saw them as no threat... Why not let them plead their case to him: to see if it was justified?
It was Angelique who argued their case for coexistance: the silver tongue and swift mind of the mistress of justice intrigued Foret. The two argued for hours, so focused on each other that neither noticed Barnabas, who had long since grown tired of the debate, step forward and use his sword to pierce Foret's godly heart.

Furious, Angelique spat bitter words at her brother, cursing him for not allowing her to finish the debate on her own terms. The goddess angrily left the court, vowing to destroy Barnabas for what he had done. Barnabas also left to find his own counterpart, Isonia.

Isonia would not fall without a fight. Again, Barnabas challenged her to single combat, and the warrior goddess accepted. Each chose a second to assist them in battle: Isonia chose one of her favorite shield maidens, while Barnabas chose his brother, Leto. The battle began as Barnabas rushed towards Isonia. Her almighty battleaxe rent the heavens, and storms wracked the land below as she clashed with the Lord of War, Barnabas. Master of warriors though once he was, Barnabas remained no match for the Goddess, and, accepting defeat, he offered up his sword to Isonia... until Leto, who in the confusion of battle had snuck behind Isonia, slit her throat.

Barnabas jumped to his feet, shouting at his brother for not letting the battle end honorably, and instead betraying the very nature of the combat between him and Isonia: one of equals with honor. Leto tried to convince Barnabas that it had been for the best, but Barnabas would hear none of it, and chased after Leto, who quickly outdistanced his older brother and dissapeared.

Their alliance broken, the elder gods still knew that for their return to power to be complete, they would have to find and destroy Darden.

Darden, Youngest and Cleverest, knew his only hope was to flee...

Even as Darden fell, Heaven flooded with despair, washing over the elder gods, driving them backwards... downwards... to Tonan.

*sigh* The only thing I dont like about this is that it would imply that the armies of angelique would hold a special hatred for the followers of Barnabas, the followers of Barnabas would hold a special hatred for the followers of Leto, and the followers of Leto... would... I guess... just hate everyone?

I jumped to that post before reading your quote. I too be honest didn't see it the next time I read it either, bizarre the things you 'dont' read. To be honest, that could work quite nicley as an Aid to the older gods regaining power. The destruction of Maxim for example, was a huge source of power to which ever God (or Gods) was/were responsible.

I'm still not convinced by the methods. The Old Gods, would have realised that repeating their previous attempts would be futile. Hence the inclusion of the trickery to defeat, but Barnabas would not cold heartedly kill an unarmed foe that was deeply consentrating elsewhere.

If Barnabas has already challenged Isonia through force of arms, and lost then perhaps it should be Leto that challenges her next time, with Barnabas and Angelqiue performing some smaller function in the secenario.

Angelique lost her debate to Foret so instead Barnabas steps up, with Angelique and Leto running backup.

Angelique causes Darden to smash his bowl etc

The reason i set the... 'godly conquests' up as they were was that while it shows that the currently weaker old pantheon were unable to match their counterparts individually, they realised - only after their own first, failed, attempts to regain heavenly superiority - that it was only by accepting and valuing the attributes of the sibling and rivals, that they would be able to conquer their successors.

Angelique cannot defeat Foret without Barnabas' strength, Barnabas cannot defeat Isonia without Leto's guile, and Leto cannot defeat Darden with his siblings strength and intellect.

Obviously, these can therefore we worked around another way - Leto can slit Foret's throat while he and Angelique argue, Angelique can 'rule' in Barnabas' favour in a fight he actually loses, and Barnabas can hack the clever and decietful Darden down for him trying to flee rather than stand and fight with honour.... or whatever.

However, I think the fact that the elder gods perhaps accept the attributes of their siblings are a necessary 'evil', shows their desperation to return to heaven, and their knowledge of their inability to do so alone. Choosing the 'lesser of two evils', they choose to cooperate and tolerate one another's obscene behaviours, until such a time as they are powerful enough to resume their destruction of one another.

Further... i'm not sure about the addition of the earlier fights of the individual elder pantheon gods against their supposed counterparts... I kinda saw it more as each elder god trying to regain the heavens in general rather than seeing any specific one of the younger pantheon as their immediate successor... Each selfishly tries only to regain heavenly position, regardless of whom's position they take... hence why they are so 'easily' defeated by the younger three... The attributes of the three combined mean each Elder god is of no match in the slightest... But even small godly battles can have significant repercussions in the mortal world (byebye one island).

The later war (which they win) shows only the elder gods taking advantage of their natural attributes to square up to the gods of the younger pantheon, so as to provide the best distraction so their siblings can remove the younger god with attacks the distracted God/Goddess has no answer to. (War to Justice, Treachery to Honour, Justice to Chaos).

I believe as honourable as Barnabas may have been, he may've succumbed to this one sin of allowing Leto to slit another's throat from behind... with the justification that Barnabas' knew he would smite his younger brother soon enough, once he regained the heavens, just as he had always intended.

Perhaps Angelique can persuade Foret that only trial by the sword can truly pass judgement on the Elder God's 'Case'.... hence Barnabas killing him, a distracted Foret no match in a fight against the ancient war god...

Though... once again i think a little dishonour in the name of returning to heaven would have been accepted... just as Leto would be willing to listen to the 'drivelling' justice of his sister or the 'foolish' honour of his brother so long as it provided ample opportunity for deceit and chaos... And Angelique would tolerate treachery and bloodshed, so long as she believed the ends justified the means: her eventual return to heaven would mean she could finally remove the vile presence of her two brothers from the world of Tonan.

Hmm... just my tuppence again...

Apologies that A) i didn't notice this forum had activity once again... it's been a while i guess... and b) if this is a little non-sensical - Team christmas party tonight. Apparently it's 'sailor jerry's' not jolly sailor like i mentioned in TheEmpire's birthday/war thread. That stuff's FAR too drinkable. *burp*

I guess it was my turn to dissapear for an overly long amount of time :) Silly holiday travelling.

I see your point Karhedron... a sort of 'neccessary evil' sort of approach to regaining power... although barnabas does seem to be getting the short end of the stick here... betraying his own honor to stab a foe in the back, and then allowing a foe he had challenged in ritual combat to be killed through treachery :) He'd be angry at the others, thats for sure.

I like your idea with foret and barnabas fighting... matching strengths against the younger god's weaknesses...

Angelique persuading foret to battle Barnabas...

Barnabas challenging Isonia to... erm... play hide and seek with his brother... who eventually pops out of thin air and slits her throat... (?)

And... Darden... who always gives me trouble on this front... at least if we want to go for 'balance'. I *do* like the idea of darden being cornered and tipping over his bowl... perhaps in response to angelique's actions...
although in this permutation... I dont know what 'strength' that would play to for angelique... her ablity to talk to him and convince him that he should just kill himself and save them the trouble... so... he... turns over the bowl? meh. :)

In general, though, I do like it quite a bit. I'll post more soon... when Im more awake *nods*

It's not a neccessary evil, it's a God acting against his own nature,

I'm still not convinced by the idea of having a the God of Honour being dishonourable in the very storyline that introduces him. It's a small thing but it's significant.

I don't like the idea of Barnabas killing Foret in cold blood during the debate with Angelique.

Unless it was termed in such a way that Barnabas was forced to kill him to protect Angelique. Foret striking a female should be enough. Angelique could use Barnabas for this means without him knowing his part. Provoking Foret subtly knowing that Barnabas would be honour bound to protect her.

We also still need a way of Barnabas defeating Isonia. Barnabas would not attack her unless he felt he had an edge. Otherwise it would just be a repeat of the previous failure. Therfore if he just initiates another fight he has to 'know' that his opponent will be dishourably murdered during their fight.

The storyline is supposed to introduce the different facets of the Gods. Having Barnabas contradict his 'honour' side to aid his failing 'war' side is pointless.

Surely he would feel 'honourbound' to fight her, even if he thought he would lose?

And, i still really think that in their initial attempts at Heaven, the elder gods would have tried individually to 'reascend', therefore facing the entire younger pantheon combined (more or less) rather than 1 on 1. Explains their easy defeat.

As i mentioned, there are alternatives to the stories - rather than Leto slitting her throat, Angelique, who has now reascended to heaven due to the defeat of Foret is asked to judge the duel, and rules in Barnabas' favour, despite his actual defeat at the hand of Isonia, in recompense for Barnabas striking down Foret (when he struck her for frustrating him with endless senseless arguments?)

Blegh. Too early in the morning.

But i do think the whole 'necessary evil' thing works and makes sense.

Oleana would not sacrifice her essence so that those who slaughtered her chosen people while she was alive and drove them from the face of the world after her ascension to heaven would have peace.

Yes, Oleana controlled the spheres of Peace and Nature, but those were basically constructs that were forced upon her to put her on equal footing with the existing deities at the outset of her being made a playable deity.

Essentially, the only reason that I selected nature as one of her spheres was because her chose people were such staunch defenders of the 'land' in the Romany stories. And though, yes, while she was the Gypsy Queen, she tried to broker peace between Barnabas, Angelique and Leto at the first and most noteworthy of the Zbashta Festivals, her attempts at peace were always rejected.

Essentially, Oleana was the goddess of the Romany. The Romany were hunted down, massacred and eventually destroyed as a culture by the followers of Angelique and Leto. They were eternally rejected by the followers of Barnabas. The goddess of the gypsies simply would not sacrifice herself for the benefit of those who had done all of this to her chosen people.

Reggie,

I was wondering how long it would be before somebody from Oleana's background would show up in here. Oleana WAS more than just the Goddess of the Romany though. She may have started that way, but over time other guilds and roleplays occurred.

With the Romany, as far as I am aware, they have no history as a Guild from a Post-Monarchy Evernight point of view, and I suspect that there is a zero percent chance that you will bring the Guild back. While I would like to see you take up a role actively helping come up with an over story, it makes no real sense to bring Romany back into the storyline at all.

This over Story needs to be about Canon in the now. There is no way that every single element of the past history from Monarchy, Prophets Canon, New Gods Canon and Old Gods Canon, can be incorporated. It need just as many similarities as are needed to come up with a decent flow that will not effect people's overall roleplay ideas for their Guilds and Characters.

It makes sense that she did not follow the same path as the three other Gods, as had she done so from a Storyline point of view she would have come back with the return of the original 3 Gods. Therfore it makes a good Storyline sense to use Oleana as the catalyst of the banishment of Angelique, Barnabas and Leto.

The Goddess of the Earth making a deal with High Priests of the Sun and two Moons to banish the other three Gods in return for lasting Peace, sounds like a good storyline to me. If she has tried to broker peace and failed, and seen her people disapear, is there really a good reason for her not to 'force' peace?

Karh,

This whole thing is going to stall until we get beyond this 'necessary evil' thing. This story needs to show those reading it the aspects of the Gods. This allows people to make up their minds which God they want to follow.

The storyline MUST do this, therefore Barnabas will NOT be acting dishonourably at all.

I'd really like for someone to try and come up with an idea that works within the constraints of the Gods natures. Otherwise I'll just have to eventually find the time to come up with something myself, and the point of this forum was so that I didnt have to do that ;)

From Angeliques point of view the means of getting justice is largely irrelevant, so long as she gets it, the focus of her wrath now is the younger three (and Oleana, and being a vengeful bitch probably the world below that forsook her, hah)

Likewise with Leto, there's no trait or portfolio blockage to anything, so long as it serves the end.

As has been mentioned, Barnabas is the one with the issue, honour unlike justice means that somethings simply cannot be done.

I think it's wrong, even if 'just' from a storytelling point of view, to portray in the official line a breaking from portfolio, but it's mre than that 'really,' gods aren't changing creatures, whilst they may be whimsical, acting against their very nature is just not something that a teller should contemplate, because it is their humor. Just as man and elf is of sinew and bone, god is of ether, they are their traits.

So how'd you go? I haven't 'written' in god knows how many years so I probably won't be tempted to right now, but still..it makes sense to me to have each younger god bested primarily by their two counters.

As for the order, again it looks cleanest to take foret first and darden last, but it's not a necessity, so long as the bowl is instrumental. Leto must take the lead, where direct means failed each of them, cunning and a hint of malice being used to manipulate his brother and sister to acheieve the end must suffice, a theme replayed by the cunning amongst the gods in every pantheon.

As the gods are buoyed by their worshippers, and essentially subject to their fortunes in the mortal realm.....

Leto's plan is to single them out one by one, 3vs1, but it doesn't get very far. First they seek to take Foret, Leto disguised as Angelique seeks to engage Foret's goodwill and charitable sense in argument to help the three restore their strength, a plan acceptable to both angelique and barnabas, but his personal twist is to bend the words to raise Barnabas' ire, leading him to challenge an unprepared, but accepting Foret, some of whose ability leto and/or angelique work to diminish, without barnabas' knowledge or too late to stay the finishing blow..

Personally i think having Isonia and Darden then fall prey to the same simple scheme even if by dumbluck is weak.

Darden though, was no fool. Though his siblings may have been too full of pride, or hope, to see this old threat returning he swore he'd not be caught offguard, watching Leto break off his chase of the illusion in anger and frustration[....]

Then it falls to the elder gods to try their next ploy, on Isonia, Leto schools angelique in the plan but Barnabas is left out.

Leto and Angelique set to, convincing Isonia that they were not imprisoned in Hell, but in the waters of Dardens bowl where he now held the soul of their Father and Foret (slain by Darden as he now accelerated his plan because of the escape of the elder three) and all the power invested in them, the despair was the despair of shackled gods. They taunted Isonia slyly that even her power would not hold against the strength of a whole pantheon of living gods and so she went to challenge her brother on it. Again, not being stupid, she overpowered all three of the elder gods and bound them in her plane, breaking Leto's plan.

Anyway, at length she has a fight with Darden, his expectng a deception he finds none and as the nature of the bowl is nknown to him either, her words may have some truth. At any rate, Darden attempts to flee or entrap her, and nearly succeeds but is seperated from the bowl which shatters by some chance or design, engulfing her and her brother (in limbo? or returning them to their natural state as heavenly potentatials) and shattering their heavenly and earthly works, releasing the imprisoned 3, who having no plane of their own(or by virtue of the bowls power), are jettisoned to the mortal realm.

Another idea would be to have the bowl shatter heaven itself, and dispatch all five to the game realms, but knowledge of the younger two lost through some chance or design of their own.

Long? Well it's not a story, just ideze.

As for reggie and Oleana, it seems to me that deadends do few favours to a story, and whilst she may not be mentioned in the story, neither would I personally count her out irrevocably, not assigning any permadeath, trait or act alien to her. As the spirit of the earth itself, her death would likely mean the withering of the world in more than a little degree and so a good assumption be that she was bound or diminished by some stronger means than the original.

Not sure if this is really pertinent here or not but thought it might be helpful with the slight difficulties being had in Barnabas' storyline progression due to his honourable nature.

So I thought I'd try to be helpful and post a list of the tenets in the medieval
code of honour. It's also for the most part the one I refer to when making decisions in game.

1.)To fear God and maintain His Church

2.)To serve the liege lord in valour and faith

3.)To protect the weak and defenceless

4.)To give succour to widows and orphans

5.)To refrain from the wanton giving of offence

6.)To live by honour and for glory

7.)To despise pecuniary reward

8.)To fight for the welfare of all

9.)To obey those placed in authority

10.)To guard the honour of fellow knights

11.)To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit

12.)To keep faith

13.)At all times to speak the truth

14.)To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun

15.)To respect the honour of women

16.)Never to refuse a challenge from an equal

17.)Never to turn the back upon a foe.

18.)Never desert a comrade in need, in danger or in trouble.

19.)Never withdraw allegiance once granted.

20.)Never desert a group to which you owe your support.

21.)Never disparage yourself or minimize your strength or power.

22.)Never need praise, approval or sympathy.

23.)Your self-determinism and your honor are more important than your immediate life.

24.)Your integrity to yourself is more important than your body.

25.)Never fear to hurt another in a just cause.

26.)Don’t desire to be liked or admired.

27.)Be your own advisor, keep your own counsel and select your own decisions.

28.)Be true to your own goals.

Not sure if it can help, but I hope they can be.

Now I'm certainly no expert at this nor quite up to the level of aptitude shown here but I've been browsing this and had my own lil story of how the three younger gods were toppled. So I may as well toss it out for ya's

Oleana in her pact with the Isonia,Foret and Darden needed a vessel in which to trap the essences the elder gods and seal them away. She believing them to be creating a world of peace free of despair used Dardens bowl to trap the very essences of the three elder gods within and then gave her life sealing them away within the bowl Darden carried.

When war broke out breaking the pact between Oleana and the younger gods ,despair began to run rampant through the world once again causing Dardens bowl to overflow slowly leaking more and more of the elder gods essences to earth.

Barnabas was the first to be reborn flexing his once powerful muscles and set forth to restore his honour and get vengeance after the years of torment trapped within ever growing despair of Darden's Bowl.
Barnabas traps Foret into a one on one duel slaying his enemy after a long and arduos battle.

Leto was the next to awaken his mind plotting feverishly for vengeance. The conniving and silver tongued god seduces Isonia quickly gaining the eye of the goddess with his fair tongue and visage. Then one night as she lay unsuspecting Leto slits her throat.

Angelique awakens her very soul crying out against the injustice wrought on her and her siblings.Seeks out and finds Darden who tries talking his way out of the situation but Angelique not allowing the crimes against her to go unpunished slays Darden with (insert Angeliques weapon of choice)
in the process Darden drops the bowl containing the remaining essences of the gods which shatters pouring out over the mortal world and into the bodies of men.

With this the three elder gods unable to stay in the heavens while most of their essences were trapped in the world below were forced to descend into mortal form and regain their essence through the worship of the people.

Ooh, wow... what a flurry of activity.

I'm gonna have to make these all very quick, while the thoughts are still fresh, but i'm rather short on time...

Reggie: sorry, i was unaware of the full story of Oleana.... But while i see what you're saying about her not wanting to give peace to the people who persecuted her own, there is still the fact that in sacrificing herself, she does do away with, in theory permanently, the true causers of her and her people's oppression.

Kaz, KoB, Kax - ... the whole 'triple K' thing aside (though spooky!), if you read my later posts i DO offer an alternative to Barnabas besmirching his honour - slaying or challenging and then slaying Foret for striking his sister when the two argue. As such, the same circular eventual defeat of the younger pantheon can be completed with none of the elder gods strictly defying their essential principles, and yet still displaying them for the others to see.

The problem, i see, with both KoB and Kax's stories is the lack of the 'two stages', required for the sinking of two separate islands... or was that hinted at and you guys only focusing upon the second attempt at ascension...?

However, long and short, accepting Kaz's point that Barnabas cannot be seen to betray his integral trait in the story that is intended to portray them, i see no reason why the alternative 'circular aiding' of the elder gods cannot occur. Barnabas smites Foret for striking his sister is the essential change... Willing to defend even the honour of his despised sister.

Leto can still slit Isonia's throat during a challenge between her and Barnabas, and all three can gang up on the devious Darden causing him to spill his bowl in vengeance, driving them from heaven into mortal form.
