Down Hitting

Would you down hit if you were in the top position?

Be honest. It is a simple question.

No reason for a long winded question.

You can give your reasoning below after you vote.
I still think I would make a great pope.

that's so not an easy question. cause right now nope won't downhit i'll let the others have a fair shot at me. however if i went a month without getting hit, i'd do what i could to make it fair, but ya i'd hit

i put yes

i sorta agree with fire
but circumstances play a big role

for instance, say your only on top by 100k nw

and there are five other guilds below u that can hit u and take u down given a few days

id hit to stay on top

now, if i was on top and no one could even feasibly take me down unless the whole faith hti me, id probably not hit

but again, it depends on things

believe it or not, when we swept last time it was simply because EVERY MEMBER in my guidl was whining every day that they wanted land.<rey even u asked me once a week when we could sweep if i recall:P>

i mean hell we hadnt warred in over a month
so we just organized a sweep /shrugs

we have to make it fun for other players, but as gm u have to make it fun for your own guild members to..

its a thin line and cant really be answered as yes or no

It's a war game. When you're on top, there are two choices - wait to be hit, or hit first.
Waiting to be hit is not generally a winning strategy.
With the diminished player base, it has made things appear more grotesquely lopsided early in the last few ages.
More frequent resets might help the player boredom - say every month instead of every two.

Go back to the random resets. Imagine a new age after a week. Would totally throw everyone and make the game interesting.

The real question here is what makes it a downhit in your eyes.

This two out of three advantages crap is clearly only when convenient hell giving all three advantages has still had a group of players trying to chew my ass out online for downhitting.

So in reality what exactly is a downhit and what is a fair hit???

I think being up top earlier in the age speaks for itself. If I am attacked, yes I will hit back. But I don't think that is a downhit when you are attacked. You have a right to defend yourself. I'm a challenge kind of guy. However, there are certain scenarios that are different. If second place has very close numbers(number of members and NW, ANW etc.), then I think its cool to make a war, but I would add another smaller guild to add a bit of a challenge and at least some way for the defender to be able to counter somewhat. I hate wars that end in one strike.

Another time is sweeps time. Its been a tradition since I don't know but that's always fun.

"Waiting to be hit is not generally a winning strategy."

It can be if you're good enough and the biggest part of it all...far enough ahead of everyone else.

I know Nagash I'm just pointing out how the whole poll is based solely on individual interpretation. One persons downhit may be anothers fair fight.

Without a preset written in stone notion of what is a "downhit" really there can be no downhitting simply hits that we personally do not agree with.Which really we're going to have no matter what.

We all play differently, run or play for our guilds/faiths differently and see hits in a different manner.

If we didn't things would get pretty boring pretty quick around here.

We need good guys and bad guys.Nice folks and assholes equally to keep the game exciting......

After playing TW for the last 7 months, and dealing with politics there.

my answer is a very simple and sweet. Hell Yes!

This is a game.
I am here to win.
If you allow me to get bigger then you, then thats your fault, you should of done something better.
I will not sacrafice my enjoyment, because you want to whine.

Yes this is a war game and the end result is to win. But we're all just regular people playing a game, where's the sportsmanship in downhitting?

Or if you don't go for the sportsmanship stuff, where's the challenge?

At one point in my 10+ year stint with this and the other game, I did play with a win at all costs attitude and my guild did well those ages. But I've also had a top guild by playing with just a spec of humanity and you know what, those finishes felt better to me. Maybe I'm just getting old and to compationate but I believe playing a "game" with just a smidge of thought for others is better then just beating down the peasants. But maybe that's just me.

Maven, was it someone who is so old that we would never guess it unless we played in Key or Triforce or whatever the fuck they called this back in Monarchy?

Because if so ... what is the point in asking it?

V said it best, thus far, which is (and I paraphrase): "If you play honorably, you just end up honorably dead."

No, actually, it was DECAE, you know, the guy who created the game in the first place. I suppose he is technically that old, and I also suppose you still know who he is.

OK, Sartek, play sportsman like have your sportsman like ass kicked, feel better?

Maybe if you guys would just shut the fuck up and play the damned game people would want to play with you.

Bollocks. Either way works, as long as neither party tried to force his way on the other.

I don't really think you can tell the creator of the game how the game is supposed to be played. There is a reason why "honor" has never been built into the game code. The creator doesn't WANT it there.

I think its more that he created the world, he gave us the tools to play in it and its the players job to create what they want of it. Honorable or not it all has its place. Play how you want to I say, but honorable can work if you want it too.

Quite right. Honour has not been coded into the game, but nor has fucking people over at every single turn, or just building and doing nothing (if memory serves we had our share of such pacifists). The game is as it is. The players can fill it in with their playing styles to their liking. The thing that doesn't work is trying to force one's playing style upon others.
