Vengeance (Foul vs. MoS/Orb)

[ooc:] We'll see you on the battlefield at 21:00 gametime monday folks, goodluck. [/ooc:]

The days of war passed as they often do, passing him swiftly on their courses to other places. The Leto hoardes had been soundly destroyed, and the followers of Barnabas garnered their strength; with what most would assume an aim to dominate the realm.

The plague called Angelique had indeed infected his realms, but had left him with options he could feel comfort with. However, he found no comfort in his allies bein unable to regain their strength to fight the oppression of Barnabas.

Scribe!
Yes m'lord?
What banners do the closest of the Barnabas plague follow that are within our easy reach?
Orb and the Ministry, m'lord

He smiled, he knew of the ministry, and they had tied up his allies at an earlier date. He was certain they'd be ready.

Scribe, send word throughout our lands, and set our boys to marching. We march on the Ministry and Orb, may their destruction give way to the destruction of their kindred plague
It is not ours to question why, it is but ours to do and die
Hail Ceasar, we who are bout to die salute you!
Errrmmm.... Something or another, anyways?

*Ristin raised an eyebrow as Shayanna grabbed her steak and bit ripping off a huge chunk*

"Sorry to disturb your meal, we have news. Many of our Drow were found dead.
No one was seen or heard."

"Our friends we warred with maybe?"

"Yes. That is my assumption as well."

"How many Drow dead? Where were the locations?

*Ristin raised a curious ear*

"113 dead. No survivors, nothing seen or heard.
As to the locations? I failed to see any relevance on that as any location grants them entry."

"Okay, do ye know how many locations they were found at?"

"I dunno, I think seven or eight. I wasn’t keeping count."

*Shayanna grinned while wiping sauce off her lips*

"We engaged four Letorian Kingdoms. Two of which were utterly destroyed, one they left for dead, and the other is heavily crippled aye?"

*The Cardinal narrowed his eyes in thought for a few seconds before they went wide as he discovered the truth*

"A guild is preparing a strike?"

*Shayanna held up her hand as she made a weird facial expression and stood, then belched loudly and wiped her mouth on her sleeve*

"Ahhh... I would say yes. Eight scoutings in rapid succession rules out random scouting.
The question now me Eminence be who. Here be what I want ye to do, check our guild mates. See if they also have been heavily scouted. This will determine if tis a guild strike, or a single enemy looking to settle an old score or trying to gain prestige. Want some steak?"

*Maliki walked swiftly into the room*

"Report Adjutant."

"Great one, the Ministry as a whole has been heavily scouted. By your command we checked for enemy movement. The Letorians appear to be preoccupied, but there were Angelican forces marching in a direction which could bring them to the heart of the Ministry. As you instructed we set out Drow to snoop in various Angelican taverns. We have confirmed it is FOUL who plans a strike. Attack is imminent."

*Ristin looked back and forth lost in amazement on how fast things were moving*

"Thankie Adjutant. Dismissed."

*Ristin turned toward Shay as Maliki left the room*

"You left me out of the loop why?"

"Ye were giving mass."

"You did all this in two hours?"

"Tis why I get paid the big money. Ye want some steak or nae?"

"No."

"Very well, bring me the Letorian scout records. Over there. No. Behind the desk. That’s it."

*Ristin thumbed through and blinked*

"Oh bloody hell..."

"What?"

"Bellum Lupis".

"Bellum Lupis."
" Yes Bellum Lupis."
"Bellum Lupis?"
"Bellum Lupis."
"BELLUM LUPIS!!
"Lady Shayanna."
"Aye?"
"Stop it... Stop it now."
"Sowwies. I always liked the wolfie guild."

"These records pre date the coming of the false Gods. Where did ye get these?"

"Well ye know me, I cannae through anything away."

*Ristin began to get flustered and pulled the Warladys plate away*

"What are we going to do?"

"Well for starters, ye gonnae un-ass me steak right the fuck now."

*Ristin tensed as he saw the knife gripped in her hand and slowly stepped away*

"Everything else? I already figured out while singing Bellum Lupis."

*Ristin could no longer hide his irritation as he sat across from her and looked her in the eye with annoyance*

"Do tell."

"We be scouted numerous times in the last six hours. Nae anyone caught. We be probably watched even as we speak.
I will tell ye what ye need to know when ye need to know it. I will however tell ye what the enemy undoubtedly already knows.
Nae a single scout attempt failed. They have superior espionage capabilities. We will nae bother recruiting them. Instead I will put more Griffins on patrol, increase Kingdom activity numerous times to force them to spend their time continually scouting us to see what we up to. By tying up their scouts with useless reports, they will have less time to scout the rest of the Ministry. A tactic I used in one of the Bellum Lupis wars. Anything else?"

"Actually yes, I have received an Aviary from Jyllian Di Moonstone. The Warlord of the Thirteenth Baatorian Legion I believe."

*With that the Warlady stopped eating and stood.*

"Come. Walk and talk. I can assure privacy at me spire and ye can read it to me there."

*Ristin followed with a nod*

In all the guilds Kain had been a service to, none before FOUL had marched towards the enemy openly. There was nothing covert about the operation, the knights rode in columns, dragons brought in air support, and masses of troops marched steadily towards the lands of Barnabas. This would be Kain's first war under the banner of Angelique in a long long time. He had served Darden and Isonia during the time in which the old gods' touch was no longer present upon the world. He was eager to fight for his true goddess. Laustrad had approached him, the man must have heard about Kain's ability on the field of battle, for he asked the warrior to lead the armies of FOUL in the upcoming campaign.

It came as a surprise to him, but he would not turn down an opportunity to show Angelique he truly had faith in her. As well as to show Laustrad and all of FOUL that he was dependable. His own forces would play a pivotal role in this campaign, as he was one of the largest lords present within his entire faith. It was time to step into the swing of things once again. He had been travelling for far too long. This would be his first real battle in years.

He called back to his aid his personal guard, once an elite unit numbering in the thousands, now less than fifty remained. The others lost in war after war. It was they who had won him battle after battle. Kain was no longer young enough to go charging at the frontlines, his abilities were as strong as ever, but he had more important duties than being at the frontline now. He had to lead the armies of FOUL.

He patiently awaited the day the fighting began, it was time to show the world that he had returned, and so had his godess.

She pushed the cowl back from her face and looked around, searching. The army gathered behind her seemed restless and uneasy with all that was to come. It wasn't unusual these days for the unease to stay with the men. Ginger had long ago failed to bother and boost their moods. It was as if their fear made them real in her mind, and made their death much easier to cope with. Losses would occur. She would not lie to them... not to one of them.

she spotted the slight movement ahead that she had been looking for, and waited patinetly until the shadow evolved into a small figure. "News?" She asked the man.

"No news from ahead yet Milady, but news from behind..."

"I know that already. It was inevitable... 'sides... it would lure some away.. and it leaves tracks." The man nodded at her with sharp eyes glancing at her cautiously. Any wrong move and she would be unforgiving. The woman was renowned for seemingly being heartless.

"The scouts report that no tracks were found..." He winced as he saw her stare at him. She said nothing. He knew she knew what he was thinking... and he knew what he had to do. He nodded quickly, bowed and fled to return to the main keep.

Ginger watched him leave and frowned. Sometimes people were incompetent. There were always tracks to be found. You just had to know where to look.

The rustling behind her drew her attention back to the men who watched her warily. Perhaps for once it was time to say something to them...

As Kain was preparing for the upcoming war, news rolled in about an attack on his border. The armies of Baashkai invaded his lands. A missive arrived from the man, saying that he had attackd the wrong realm, and some mutterings about being a fuckup.

What are the OAFs doing in our lands? Do they intend to interfere?

Kain had one of the most extensive spy networks established in all the realms, so he sent out his spies to have a look around. The common folk told them that lord Baashkai meant to attack another follower of Angelique who did not wave a guild's banner. Then suddenly reports rolled in, Kain's coffers and war funds had disappeared, and there is not a clue as to who might have done it. There was not so much as a scout on his land when this action took place. The culprits were few, for breaking into Kain's lands unseen would require a great amount of work. Let alone looting his treasury without being seen.

OAFs, what are you up to? He asked no one in particular. Looking in the direction of the land of the fishermen. 100 million in gold had disappeared, and just before the attack. Kain only hoped that the OAFs would not interfere with this war.

*The Warlady looked into the sky judging the time.

"We should have been attacked all ready.. Wonder what’s going on."

She thought to herself not truly worried. FOUL was extremely powerful as a whole compared to her tiny kingdom and she expected to be ignored for the most part. Turning to Ristin, she brushed her hair out of her face anticipation showing in her eyes*

"Any news?"

"I have something of interest. Apparently Lord Kain had over 100 million gold stolen not long ago.
Rumor has it he believes it is OAFS who are responsible."

"That could explain the delay and play to our advantage. Let that rumor run rampant. Hell, spread it if ye can. A confused enemy is a scared enemy. I be surprised he let that rumor escape his kingdom. Looks like we may get first strike apparently."

*Ristin then noted the kingdoms Shayanna had laid out to attack on her map*

"Ummm... What is this? A wish list?"

"Targets. Divide the forces. Send 120 Griffins close to the borders of each of those kingdoms. Set them up defensively. Make it look like we are attempting to block passage to our kingdom."

"I fail to see why they would bother nor do I see why you are sending 120 griffins toward kingdoms that are ten to twenty times our size."

"Tis all part of the bigger picture."

"What? Suicide?"

"Please nae now Ristin. Just execute me commands. I will need 550 Archers prepared to mobilize at a moments notice. Make it so, but do nae mobilize them."

*Ristin was perplexed*

"Indulge me. What the hell are you doing?
Are we going offensive or defensive?"

*Maliki caught his breath from the long ascent as he reached the top of the spire*

"Great One, I bear news."

"Report."
"The Ministry wishes to inform you that Laustrad pledges not to attack us as long as we take no offensive action."

http://sdg6.homestead.com/files/29.jpg

*Biting her lip in deep thought, she allowed several minutes to go by before startling those in the room with quick movement. Shay pointed to a number of kingdoms on the map*

"When going on the offensive, appear defensive. Let this Laustrad joker think I be sitting this one out.
He appears nae to know me or that ultimatum would have never came me way. Let’s take advantage of that too, cause he will sure as hell never give me an offer like that again."

*Looking through her spyglass, she watched as the Ministry quickly mobilized from a defensive to offensive position. Massive armies about to lay siege to the heavily fortified kingdoms of FOUL*

"How the hell ye give a 24 hour notice before declaring war.. Then do nothing but let the enemy take the first strike advantage is beyond me. Must be this new kinder, gentler Angelican Army. Still wannae see what those Griffins will do ye Eminence?"

"Actually yes. I’m curious to see what 120 Griffins can do to 32,000 heavily fortified enemy troops.
Wait... On second thought, I don’t even want to know."

"Come on Ristin. Ye play chess aye?
Tis a tactical sacrifice. The Ministry's main force be approaching the enemy's strongest.
Send in me Griffins now!
All targets! Now now now now NOOOOW!!

*The command to charge was sounded as 120 Griffins flew towards certain annilation. Just as they were about to make contact, the Angelicans launched ambushes completely surrounding the valiant Griffins but exposing their flank. Their ambush was quickly and swiftly followed by a counter attack of tens of thousands of Ministry troops*

"SOUND RETREAT! GET THOSE GRIFFINS OUT OF THAT HELL!"

*As the horn sounded, 19 Griffins rose straight into the air trailing feathers flying back towards Shayanna's kingdom at full speed. 5 of which spiraled toward the ground shortly after having been mortally wounded*

"Okay... Now how do the Archers fit in the picture?"

"Patience Ristin. Wait."

*They watched the battle unfold neither side having a superior upper hand when one of the Ministry’s larger armies broke off attack and took defensive positions their troops too exhausted to continue*

"Ristin, whose kingdom were they attacking?"

"That is the Kingdom of Mr. Ed."

"The famous Mr. Ed?"

"The same."

"Those Archers? Send them after the famous Mr. Ed.
Attack."

*Shayanna cracked her knuckles*

"Watch this shit."

*Watching from her spire as the battle waged on, Mr. Ed's army already heavily decimated by the Ministry were no match for the Griffinsbane forces. Thousands upon thousands of acres were ceased as his army was completely routed*

"Now what?"

*The Warlady thought hard as it was a very good question. Throughout history she had used stick and move tactics preferring the light mobile force. She was usually the first to be attacked regardless of her kingdoms size or power and was therefore always moving.

"Fortify with all remaining griffins on the walls. I'll cast fog of denial, have an ambush set.
Other than that? I be clueless. What does one do with this much land?"

"Perhaps a new cathedral? Stained glass? With trimmings of gold and silver! Maybe even some"

"Hell nae.
I be back. Tis only a matter of time till tis publicly known. Then we will be back to our 3000 acre Kingdoms again."

*Ristin sighed*

*The Warlady rubbed her temples with her fingers as she sat on her throne completely exhausted after only being up for three hours*

"Farmer Bob accused Farmer Smith of lowering the price of hey on purpose in order to force Farmer Bob out of business...
Why cannae I just kill someone?"

She thought to herself. The war continued on and she wasn’t sure if the Ministry was winning or losing. FOUL was alarmingly resilient proving to be a worthy adversary after all. If the Ministry wasn't winning, it sure was close. For Shayanna it was a mixed blessing.
It was a big Kingdom, but with big issues*

"Next."

*The next two peasants in the impossibly long line came forward and bowed*

"Okay..
Mr. London.
Ye accuse Mr. Sigmund of stealing six.... roosters!?"

"Oy."

"No I didn."
"Ye did!"
"Didn."
"Did too."

"Nae... Oh HELL nae."

*Shayanna stood with a smile*

"Ho... Can ye.. Can ye two hold a moment?

YE EMINANANCE! DIVINE ONE! POST!"

*Ristin rounded the corner with concern*

"Great One? Is all alright? Are we under attack?"

"YES! I am most DEFINATLY under attack.
Handle this."

*The Warlady began a hasty retreat*

"Ye did!
"I neva!"

"Great One? Where are you going?"

"To stab meself in the eye repeatedly with a dull spoon, then rip out me intestines with a fork."

"Ye did!"

*Leaving a completely confused Ristin to her new found hell, the Warlady went to her spire to get away from it all.

"I think I need to appoint Ristin to permanent bullshit handler."

She said aloud as she slowly relaxed. just the sky, the wineskin, and herself. She closed her eyes and began to pray"

"Mighty Warlord of the heathens I pray unto thee. Deliver me from this hell. Give me the strength and will to survive. Let me be ye weapon, let me be ye strength, let me be ye instrument of destruction and annilation. I pray to ye oh master of Balance. Persuade a heathen to attack me so I may unleash ye holy fury upon them and smite the heathen foe under me boots.
Make the heathens curse me name and hunt me down so I may oblivate them with ye divine blessing. Please oh greatest of great, bless me with battle"

*Finishing her prayer she noticed Ristin approaching with aviaries"*

"News? Has FOUL retaliated?"

"News yes, we lost a great many Drow from scoutings"

"War be at hand. Bless ye Barnabas."

"You do not understand great one. The scouters were not of FOUL, but other Angelican and Letorian guilds"

*Shayanna nodded solemnly*

"A good old fashioned gangbang. I am prepared."

"Actually no, several curious heathens wanted to see if it was really you and to welcome you back."

*Shayanna watched as Lord Moon Rad Silverbane prepared his forces lining them up for the offensive. Sitting back she crossed her legs and munched on some fresh popcorn. There was no deception. Lord Moon was extremely blatant in movements and tried to hide nothing. The charge was sounded as the common peasants rose up against Lord Moon's forces*

"Give a man a fish and ye feed him for a day.
Give a man a sword and ye have a cheap labor army."

*Ristin came up with a scroll in hand, looked down from the spire, and did a double take*

"I have news... Are those Knights retreating?"

"Aye. we lost a total of seven peasants. I got bored. Decided to train them. Farmer Fran? BAD ASS with a pitchfork. I may just conscript him.
These Angelican armies of FOUL, kinda an honorable lot don’t ye think? Ye have news?"

"Actually honor is considered a good trait for Angelicans as well. Anyway, the letter is from Die`Bankier. We have our marching orders."

*Shay sat up in keen interest.*

"That reminds me. Die`Bankier was right. Those smug elite Drow we got? Fire them.
They be too over confident to get the job done. I want some fresh green amateurs who actually pay attention.
Besides.. No need for them to die over heathens bearing their regards. State the orders."

"He says... "Yo Shay, listen up. Send your troopies to Lady Ginger's place. I gots a surprise for ya's."

"That’s Die alright. Muster the Griffins. I think I know what he has planned."

http://sdg3.homestead.com/files/50.mid

*Ristin looked at the war map at both Die`Bankier's army and Lady Ginger's army, then decided it would be best to stay quiet and try to understand why later.

It was a four minute flight to the battlefield with Die`Bankier's army already on the offensive. Lady Ginger's troops were putting up more of a fight than the Warlady had guessed. She looked over her shoulder and barked her commands into the wind.*

"BREAK OFF! GAIN HEIGHT! CIRCLE! TIS NAE TIME!"

*Die`Bankier's mighty forces began to lose momentum from the initial clash as Lady Ginger sent all forces to counterstrike leaving the flank of her kingdom completely open.*

"FOLLOW ME!"

*Leaning forward and holding on tightly, she tapped Screech on the head twice. Tucking his wings, the Griffin started a rolling dive as the ground came up to meet her. Some of Ginger's troops looked up at the shadows forming over head, but it wasn't in time to start a counter attack.

"We got this."

She thought to herself with the wind became a loud roar in her ears, the weightlessness of her decent causing her stomach to churn. Then as a unit they stood, several hundred Archers with bows drawn taunt. Looking back she motioned with her sword to execute the command to scatter. Five hundred griffins broke formation as their riders took individual control heading towards an assortment of fortresses, guildhalls, Mill, temples, and barracks while Shay took her squad to the archers.

"I sure picked a fine time to lead from the front"

She thought to herself while she gripped the stabbing pain in her shoulder from a stray arrow. Screech went into a hard turn to avoid a volley as Shayanna struggled against the G forces to hold on. Slowly Screech extended his wings bringing him parallel to the ground toward the archers. Taking aim at her target; (a rather fat archer whose eyes were wide with surprise as a 800 pound Griffin came speeding toward him) She sat up slightly in her saddle trailing her sword straight out behind her and locked her eyes with the enemy. The arrow flew as her sword arced with a sideways slash severing the archers throat. She fought to hold onto her blade almost losing it with Screech flying on into a pocket of soldiers spreading his wings wide. Dust rocks and twigs blinded everyone as the griffin slowed himself with his wings, his talons and beak ripping into the first soldier he met. A sickening boom was heard to the side; one of the griffins lost control and breached a fortress wall with his own body most certainly killing himself and his rider in the process. One by one the riders dismounted taking the battle on foot while the griffins fought from above.
Command and control was non existent with the chaos of war erupting around them. Three armored knights advanced on the Warlady as she drew her second sword. Ducking the first swing she quickly stood and kicked him in the back helping his momentum to take him out of the fight then twirled her weapons high parrying the other two knights as they worked an offensive routine. The deafening clash of steel on steel rang in her ears as she took on a defensive posture looking for an opening continuing to work their weapons high. A Griffinsbane officer joined the fray facing off with one knight greatly improving her odds.

"There it is!"

The knight she was fighting took a quick glance to his right to see how his comrade faired. When he looked back just in time to see Shayanna's sword coming towards his head in a wide horizontal arc. He quickly rushed to block throwing his sword high and wide. The swords clanged loudly with Shay accepting the block and spinning fast in reverse direction slamming her elbow against his nose guard driving it into his skull. She turned to see the other
Knight cleave the Griffinsbane officers head down the middle.*

"DAMN YOU!"

*The Knight turned on her with skilled quick strikes testing her defenses. Over confidant, the Warlady went into a dazzling display of offensive swordsmanship but was unable to find a hole in the knights defense.

"He's good."

Working her blades low with several strong blows, he quickly snapped up at an angle in an attempt to sever her head but the agile Elf was able to lean back out of the way feeling a stinging pain rip through her ear.*

http://sdg6.homestead.com/files/6.jpg

"OHH HO! YOU! FUNNY! GUY!
I CAN BE FUNNY TOO JACKASS!"

*Deep rage clouded her mind as she went straight for his throat with a careless thrust. Seeing the opening, he slammed her wrist hard numbing it then kicked forward knocking the wind out of her. Shayanna looked up gasping for breath as the Knight called out a blessing to Angelique and went for the kill.
Blackness and the sound of crumpled metal filled her senses. Screech on the offensive pummeled the knight in the back with this seven foot wings drawing his attention. He spun hard and fast driving his blade into the War Griffins flank...And got it stuck. Two claws came down upon the knight forcing him down pinning him to the ground before piercing his skull with his beak. Shayanna looked around in pain.
With the help of Die`Bankier's forces taking on the brunt of Lady
Ginger's defenses, they secured a rather large amount of territory*

"Far enough! Secure the perimeter till the wardens arrive!"

*Shay whined in pain from a shallow slash in the side and the arrow in her shoulder driving deeper. She had enough battle for one day. The wardens arrived providing a secure defense as the priests tended to Shayanna's wounds as she patiently waited for Ristin to arrive*

"You almost had your ear severed."

"They a big target. How many wardens we have?

"We have a full complement. 2378 elite wardens Great One."

"Have them all pull back. We took more land than I be prepared to take.
Pull WAY back."

"Where do we pull all these Wardens? I got enough to cover what we gained!"

"Tell them to make their buddies smile. We be keeping them all. I plan to sleep well tonight. Who be going to screw with 2378 Elite defensive wardens for a couple acres of land? And send an aviary to Die`Bankier. Tell him thankie. Could nae have done it without his troops.
As for me? I be done. Ill be sitting out the next day or two. And that be the last damn time I lead the assault. I be to old for this shit"

"Suuuure it is Great One."

he thought he had found his path with sekhet aaru. he thought...

but he had been wrong.

the ministry shone as a beacon of light in a land blanketed in darkness. the horn hound had called upon die bankier, one night, to join him at the ministry and spread the faith. spread barnabas' message.

he had a hard time of it, as it was sekhet aaru that had brought him back, from the endless wanderings. but he knew he could wander no further than barnabas, and with the aaru serving angelique, the matter was finished.

he had his own agenda for a while, driven onwards to greater heights and power in order to destroy a single man. but it was not so long after he broke off from the aaru that he realized that this, too, was not a noble path for a lord of the realm. a ruler whose sole objective being to destroy one man was no ruler at all.

once part of the ministry, he hid in the shadows. nobody had found him, yet. his kingdom was a fortress atop a hill whose allegiance the heathens tried to penetrate, but failed to time and time again. their thieves would come to his lands in search of treasure, or in search of sabotaging industry. he would not even deign to return their heads, nor would he let their scribes enter his kingdom for dialogue.

in the ministry's first war, his legions of thieves were sent into the lands of the ascension and aaru. fruitful intelligence and loot was borne of these missions.

and now, when FOUL came, he did the same. only, it seemed fitting that he would finally declare himself to the heathens, to say that die bankier was indeed in the ministry now, and that he would fight with his allies to destroy the lunatics, led by one laustrad.

In the coming days, disater upon disater fell upon Orrah's lands. If it was not one thing it was another equally displeasing thing. In Laustrad's absence she had been left in charge. In her opinion it wasn't one of the greatest ideas, but she dealt with it. She continued to fight what was fast becoming what seemed a losing battle.

Orrah sat contemplating their next move when Makkitil came to her.

"My lady, I've some news for you...you'll not like it much."

"Spit it out then. Most news I get seems to be less that appealing."

"Well, uh, you remember that one fellow in Oafs...that one that attacked us nearly a week ago?"

"Aye what about that scum?"

"He...ah, he declared war on us."

"WHAT?? You have got to be kidding me! Sweet heaven above."

She stood and strode to her tent cursing the whole way. Without delay she wrote to Nagash, trying to keep her temper under control. It wouldn't be much of a good thing if she were to send Nagash a missive filled with profanity and anger. Quickly she rolled the missive up and sent it on it's way.

She got a fast reply and it was most pleasing. Perhaps now she could carry on with this war and move on to the next.

The reports came in at the same time as the letters. Jackal had attacked Orrha. Orrha sent angry letters. Orrah was with the Founders of Unequivocal Lunacy.

He had done this before and after a lot of negotiating, the Founders had decided the Jackal could keep the land he took from Orrha. For at that time, it was a mistake. Or at least, Jackal tricked everyone into believing so.

Now he repeated the move. He attacked Orrha while still with the Order, then left the Order of Almighty Fishingrods to go and rule his realm without having to respond to a guild for his actions.

When Nagash heard of all this, he stood up, icily calm. But his eyes and the grim look on his face betrayed that he was very, very angry. He walked towards the fireplace, not saying a word and stared into the flames for a while. One of his generals stood nearby, observing it all. The man scratched his chin nervously.
Suddenly Nagash spoke softly.

" Go forth and occupy 15.000 acres of Jackal's. Annihilate all of his army and occupy or destroy all fortresses. Then send word to miss Orrha and tell her to take whatever she needs. The 15.000 we take will be payment from Jackal for the stain on our reputation he's caused. The rest will be payment from Jackal for the damage he has done in Orrha's lands.

When miss Orrha is done, send in another regiment to destroy all she leaves. Leave no trace of the scumbag. It shames me that he once flew our banner. "

The general nodded and left. He was glad Nagash hadn't shouted at him in rage. As he left, he told his lieutenants and a few priests of his orders and went to gather the Nubash.
One of the priests, a fervent follower of Barnabas, blushed and hurried to Nagash's room. When he entered, the flames were reaching quite high, for Nagash had burned all reports of Jackal's attacks. Disturbed in his actions by the emergence of the young priest, he turned.

" What is it, priest? "

" Barnabas will never allow you to attack one of his followers! "

Nagash first arched an eyebrow and was going to ask the priest if he knew the meaning of ranks. But then he smirked and shrugged.

" Leto didn't like us attacking his people much either, or did he? "

" No, but... "

The priest started, but Nagash interrupted him.

[color#cc9966] " Well, that's that then! Those three idiots all don't like it when their followers are attacked. I'd wager Angelique would be quite irate at Jackal for what he's done.'But the prospect of that didn't stop him, or did it? "[/color]

The priest started again:

" No, but... "

And again he was interrupted by Nagash, who beamed and gave him a dazzling smile.

" See? One couldn't attack someone else without annoying other people. Jackal annoyed me, Barnabas annoys me at many occasions as well. Now it's my turn to be annoying. Now if you don't mind, I have some important business to attend to. "

But the priest thought his liege was making a grave mistake. He would do his very best to make Nagash see the truth in his words. So he boldly set three steps in Nagash's direction and started explaining why he thought that Barnabas, above all, was the one not to annoy. Nagash turned around and poked the fire with a piece of iron, pretending to listen and humming every now and then. As the young priest was coming to his conclusion, the piece of iron had become quite hot. So hot, in fact, that it was all reddish orangish and fiery.

" So if you cross Barnabas, you shall pay for it not only with your............... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH! "

" My AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH? Oh, but boy, I've lost my AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH a long time ago, so I won't be able to pay him with that. "

Nagash answered, beaming once more. He had turned around casually as the priest was trying to make his point and held the hot piece of iron in his hand. Then, as the priest was going to tell him what he'd pay with, Nagash stabbed him in the cheek with it.

The priest screamed a few more times then ran to the door, never to return. Nagash chuckled. It was most likely that Barnabas would hear of this. Jackal wouldn't be the only one that Nagash would annoy today...

Master Jackal you have recieved a scribe from Nagash of OAFS

This is fradulent commansa Jackal, I did naet attack while I was in OAFS. I left the lands and waged my own war of rage on a follower of angelique.

But...but Master the scribe says otherwise

That's ludacrious, I sent my army into the wrong heathen lands once, that is a known fact, but as my next wage of war, I was no longer apart of the so-called 'Barnabas' Guild OAFS, they did not believe in barnabas, they do not follow barnabas, they have made it clear they are entirely against him.

for any followed of Barnabas would not attack one of their own!
this is a disgrace. A disgrace!

This Nagash claims I was in his own while i attacked a second time, he is wrong, and is just speculating with no facts!

Postby Kabuto » Fri Aug 12, 2005 4:40 pm

Kabuto sat, examining the bloodied insignia in his dusty palm. Ponderance filled his empty moments like few other things did these days. So much had changed so quickly...and as with all things on this strange Isle, that change led to warfare.

This particular war was not like the others he had been fighting in. Indeed, against Sekhet Aaru the war was fought on miserable footing, in the vast deserts of the Isle. Still, at least there his enemies were typically outnumbered, undertrained and underarmed. It was a lovely introduction to the warfare of Barnabas, an excellent "trainer" for the next war, which would be against the armies of FOUL, who were known for their brutality and careful strategies. Many a men had fallen to FOULs watchful counter strikes and merciless sorceries. Several days ago, FOULs ability for destruction reared its ugly head and claimed Kabutos home. Not just his home either, many homes. His nation was reduced to rubble by the ferocity of Angelique and her endless magical assaults. His family had, thankfully, escaped alive into the Ministry, safe and sound for the most part.

Still, so many he knew had been killed. Old friends, long since removed from his memory, returned for only a moment as news of their deaths hit home. Somewhere in Kabuto there was a need to live, a need to see this thing through. He was basically a refugee now, not so much a professional soldier. The kingdom he fought for was effectively obliterated, but he fought on. At one point he even fought side by side with Lord Viios, the warrior-king of his nation. For a time he wondered if he should feel blessed, or cursed by that.

Kabuto stood, fixing the Corporal insignia to his shoulder armor. He had been tasked to collect the dead from the last defense of the outer rim citadels...and since then had been collecting the insignia and name tags of those who had perished.

After finding a young man, barely older than Kabuto, who had been decapitated, Kabuto pulled the corpses nametag and insignia free for safe keeping. The nametag said "Mallen De Moore". De Moore...he had a neighbor named De Moore once. Was this that families only son he had once played with in the park outside the Ministry walls? It was impossible to tell. Yet even as he ran his calloused fingers over De Moores Corporal insignia, a Lieutenant wandered by, just as bloody and scarred as Kabuto. He demanded that Kabuto get his troop together and set out for the Seventh Brigade- they needed a Corporal. Before Kabuto could protest (after all, he was but a lowly grunt, no Corporal) the officer had wandered off.

So now Corporal Kabuto was standing, an insignia not his own fixed to his shoulderpad. Blood streamed off of his gladius as he stared out towards the towers in the distance. Clouds were beginning to cover the landscape before them- a mystic fog was descending to keep the legions of Barnabas out of FOUL lands. Yet standing side by side with the warriors of the Ministry, many of whom were not from his own nation, Kabuto felt reassured. All these men and women and...beasts...he had never seen nor met before were all fighting for his nation, for his home. All because they wore the same faith. Even as archers took to positions high above the walled city they were about to assail, Kabuto just ran a scarred hand across his slashed cheek. His stitches had broken...again. That field medic didn't do a very good job. Or perhaps it was something else. This wound was the first he ever received in battle under the Ministrys banner. Yet it had reopened every single time he rode into battle since then. Today was no different, he thought. Whatever fateful significance there was to that wound, it didn't matter much to Kabuto. What mattered was the open field in front of him. It was killing time soon. Time to harden up, time to focus. Without focus he'd be dead. With it, he had a chance. As the warcry went up and the forward lines surged, he caught a drop of blood fall from his old wound out of the corner of his eye.

Stained by blood, scarred by brutality and side by side with allies he never knew before today, Kabuto did the only thing he could do in the situation. He echoed the warcry.

Orrha sat and contemplated the things that had gone on of late. The war...well it was a war. But Jackal attacking her lands was a bit infuriating. His claims that her army was mobilizing and moving towards his lands bordered on ridculous. He was a piss ant that didn't even claim a iota of her attention. After the first altercation, she forgot about it and payed it no more mind. Yet he just wasn't able to help himself and leave her and her people alone.

Nagash had proven helpful, and aided her in taking back what was hers. She sincerly hoped this would be the end of it but it was highly unlikely that Jackal would leave well enough alone.

With a shrug she stood and sent scouts to keep an eye on Jackal to make sure he stay out of her lands.

The trumpets were sounding all across the lands, yes it was war. Something was different
Though, and Lord Phillo could not put his finger on it. Then he saw why it was different and that difference was one name

--=(§hayanna Ðanielle Griffinsbane)=-- ¤-The Warlady-¤

His teacher; she was one of the best, and now she would know what kind of student he had become. In fact he had become very proficient at war. This was going to be a great honor in fact. He also remember her list of kills and on that list contained many a great name and he knew he would not allow his name to become part of that list

So he and his troops set out towards the realms of the Ministry of Stone and that of the ORB, and in the early stages land came to him rather quickly. Which sort of surprised Lord Phillo; it couldn’t be that the Warlady had aligned herself with utter incompetence but that too was short lived. In fact he now had been driven back to what was once his original boundary and had not managed to even step inside her lands. He knew he had to at least take one acre from her just to say he did that. So he will press onwards, marching ever diligently to the prize.

The following day two reports came in. The first was a bundle of short notes. Notes of members of the Order of the Almighty Fishingrod who had also decided that Jackal crossed a line. From all sides his kingdom was assaulted after Orrha had told them she had claimed enough of the lands. Soon every single acre was occupied by the Order of Almighty Fishingrods. The wrong was righted. The last note from the bundle contained the following message:

Nothing left of his kingdom to divide.

~Sheepy

Nagash smiled upon hearing this. He was sure the culprit would return and try to avenge his old kingdom. In the name of Barnabas. The second report said that Jackal had left the Order before attacking Orrha. Nagash spat and summoned two servants. As if that justified his actions. He had attacked once under the banner of the Order and had been a member until the very moment he attacked. It put suspicion on the Order and therefor Nagash would not stand for it. He spat in contempt again and to the first servant he said:

" Yours is the task to inform all lords and ladies of the Order of Almighty Fishingrods whom have helped ousting this pig to give them my thanks for their cooperation. "

Then he turned to the other one,

" And yours is the task to go to the treasury and take 5 million gold pieces. Then you shall go to my gardner and tell him to create a bouquet of his finest flowers.

If you have all this, take a few dozen opulents with you and bring the gold to Orrha's treasury and after that bring her this letter, attached to the bouquet. "

The messengers both nodded and left. The letter Nagash gave the second one bore the seal of the Divine Rod, and read:

Dearest miss Orrha,

Once again I have to say to you that I'm sincerely sorry that one of my (ex-)members has caused you so much trouble. As you are reading this, the good man who brought you this bouquet (you like it?) and letter has already delivered 5 million gold pieces to your treasury. I hope that you bear no grudge against me or the Order of Almighty Fishingrods and that this matter is now finished to both our satisfaction.

We have taken the land of the culprit and divided it between us. We shall respect the borders with the lands you have taken and expect you to respect ours.

Fare thee well and do come and visit me for a cup of tisane some time!

Kind regards,

Nagash

*The Warlady sipped a glass of chilled cider apparently agitated*

"I need to attack something."

"The war is over Great One.
We have been instructed to build."

"Bah, I build by taking others buildings from them."

*The trumpets sounded loud and clear. The Warlady blinked in surprise*

"Huh!? I was joking! Who we attacking!?"

"Twas nae us..
BRACE YOURSELF! INCOMING MAGIC!"

*The Warlady through her cider to the side and drew her sword as her Spire began to tremble*

"What the hell!? Lord Barnabas on a biscuit! What the fuck was that!?"

"I sense twas Angelican sorcery.
Sending scouts.."

*Another blast ripped through her Kingdom blasting apart buildings and cracking the base of her Spire. Another sound of a trumpet. The Angelican charge of justice*

"Ambush set!?

"No.. reports in.. Tis FOUL! We supposed to be at peace!?"

"They show their true colors after all.. How many Kingdoms?"

"Just... One? A Lord Phillo.
He has broken through the Wardens and hs taken... an acre of land?"

http://sdg3.homestead.com/files/24.mid

"No choice. Send the Wardens to charge while I muster the Griffins. I know this Lord.. I trained him. This will nae be an easy fight"

"Should not we alert the Ministry and let them handle this?
Tis a major breach of protocol and ill advised. Not becoming of an officer."

"We are on the otherside of the continent.
We will be long dead if we wait for the Ministry to awaken from sleep. A good officer takes inititive in the absense of orders.
Sides.. I be a Seeker. They going to demote me?
Anyone with the brass enough to take on me has earned the right to it."

"You are no longer the Regeant of Knights Errant.
This is not your call to make.
I will not allow it. Belay her order!"

*Shayanna whirled on him rather surprised and narrowed her eyes*

"Under article 12 of the Old Code of Barnabas, the challenge to duel be ye divine right. No mortal can take that right from ye.
in ye own words ye Eminance, "Your faith or your King. Where do ye loyalties lie?"

*Ristin stared dumbfounded as the student became the teacher.
Slowly he nodded and calmed himself*

"I will cast Fog of denial and shielding and stay out of your way.'

*The Wardens met the army head on but not enough to stop the attack. One by one the Griffins took flight from the loft slowly turning the battle to draw. She was too far away to join the battle so she began to channel elan on the spot. The energy coarsed through her veins causing pleasure and pain as her heart began to race. Spiraling down a pillar toward the ground she channeled the energy to her hand. She didn't have her Droben sorcerers there to magnify her power, but she didnt care. A Foul light could kill thousands of peasents at a great distance. A weaker one could sure screw up hundreads of troops at close range*

so The Dance began... Lord Iblade expected, nay even for some sense in his mind knew that the Heathen Horde of Foul would come to the Ministry.. Thier reputation as being fierce fighters preceded them... But he knew the Ministry was ready..

Lord Iblade sat inside his war tent.. He very seldom spent much time in the castle these days... He recieved word of the incrouchment of the Horde several days ago and had already dispatched orders.. He sent message to all the Lords and Ladies of the Ministry.. sending messages by whatever means where available.

He sent a message to the Orb Commanders and its leadership... Welcoming them to the field of battle..

Lord Iblad knew that this would be a glorious war.. and he felt the blood flow through his old veins....

as he wrote the last missive... a messenger ran into his tent...

Lord Iblade.. they are here...

Lord Iblad smiled... twas time for the fun to begin....

die bankier glanced at the maps once more. a series of scrolls lay on his desk.

their offensive drive, begun long ago, had started to slow. they had spent their time dredging up every reserve element they could put together, to provide a second echelon to the invasion force. their skirmishers, though - an important force in breakthrough operations - had experienced frightful losses, reducing the ranks in some units by seventy percent.

only be purchasing vaste swathes of untrustworthy mercenaries were they able to keep the war machine of the ministry alive and pushing forward.

the treasuries that kept these mercenary units in their service, however, had begun to run dry just as reserve units were drying up. breakthrough operations remained successful, as operational superiority soon became overwhelmingly in the favour of the ministry. local superiority became a matter of a strong command and control element, and flexible logistic service. but, despite this, universal superiority began to wane as counter-attacks, lengthened supply lines, and a shortening of the enemy's supply lines began to take their toll.

a message had gone out to other ministry commanders to the effect that further operations would prove fruitless. they needed to consolidate their holdings, and to do so in the face of continued hostilities would prove taxing on the field armies: long, strung-out guerilla wars never ended in the favour of the invader.

just as the message was sent out, so were orders throughout the realm distributed to artisans and labourers to begin the construction of new road networks and bridges to increase trade and prosperity, and to enhance internal communications in preparation for the next war.

because there would be another war.

Postby Jyllian di Moonstone » Sun Aug 14, 2005 2:35 pm

Jyllian Di Moonstone finally stood at the ready. His armies slowly assembling. Not bad for an elemental army he thought himself. As he watched over the hoards of pygmies which were tending to the flock of Salamanders, all the while his Satyrs were keeping watch for any enemy movement in the neighboorhood.

Finally as the last of preparations were ready. As all the troops stood proudly in rows. Waiting for their lord to take the word before engaging into a vaillant rush toward the enemy lines. Well except for the Salamanders off course. But well they were waiting at least.

Ahem, Ahem.

Men, Pygmies, Undines, Sylphs, Salamanders, Satyrs.

Today, is our day. Today we will take our revenge on the hordes of Angelique, let em taste the bitter taste of defeat once more.

Today i tell ye. We will move over their lands leveling all in our passage. All for the name of the one true god Barnabas.

I tell ye. Do nae ask what Barnabas can do for ye in this fight. Ask what ye can do for Barnabas. Ask and ye shall be told. Go forth my troops go forth. Destroy the angeliquan heathens. And bring death to their lands, show them which faith is the true one.

He nodded as he hearded some cheers of the pygmies. Then sighing as he saw some Salamanders had wandered off in search of some pasture grass. How ye were suposed to fight a war with that kind of troops. Ah well he thought. He had been told they were the fire of any offensive. He could hope at least.

Then finally his troops got on march as a rider came to him.

Message for the lord, Message for the lord.

After reading the message carefully, he shook his head. This could not be ! Oh no, not on the day of his great return. Peace had been signed. What could he do now. Attack anyways ? Break the peace. No that was not an option. But what then. Surely his troops needed something to destroy. After all the training and the promess of bountifull heathen lands. He sighed wondering what to do now.

As yet another rider came to him. With yet another message. He wondered what now. Had he been ordered to demobilise or something.

It was then he learned of the news of the attacks on the Warladys lands. And finally he saw his chance. As he turned to his troops he rose his sword.

Great !! The warlady has been attacked.

Seeing the confused face of the messenger. Not understanding his reaction. He blinked a moment before speaking on.

Fuck !!! i mean. The warlady has been attacked.

Raising his sword. Kicking his horse he shouted as he drove by the ranks of his confused armies.

Treason men, ride out. We go to support the armies of the Warlady. Ride and destroy the Angeliquan scum. Let's all go to the lands of the Philo and teach him what is the price of worshipping a false god.

All Ride out, to the war.

His orders to pull back, and demobilise long forgotten, the great warlord himself rode to war. Followed in his wake by a dozen pygmies, a hundred Salamanders and an array of Undines, Sylphs and Satyrs. Surely nothing could defeat this army. Soon the flag of Barnabas would liberate more heathens again.

He blinked, the fog slowly fading from his eyes. His wrists and ankles were sore from some unknown pressure, and as he looked at his surroundings he soon realised the cause.

He found himself staring at a damp dungeon and torture room, his wrists and ankles bound by chains to the walls. Piles of bones were scattered among the floor, and sounds of men in pain resonated from the walls.

Now how did I get here I wonder...

He smiled, the cloud lifting from his memory.

Ahh... yes. The bastard Boreas sent me a summons during our war marches. And then the treachery...

He shivered slightly as the chills of pleasure ran down his body. He had sent his soldiers to follow the orders of the other leaders of his guild, and left with a small encompass'.

The skirmishes had started, and he had led his men on several, and then Boreas had called, a mere 5 moons journey. So he had left his men and began the journey.

All had gone well until the third moon. His encompass' had included none of those he trusted, they were sent to lead him to where he was expected to go, and he knew none.

A chuckle escaped his lips as he further recalled that night. How he had sat at the entrance of his tent, facing the inside; after the nightly meal had been consumed.

Heavy footsteps had approached his back shortly thereafter, and stopped behind him. Blackness soon followed, and he found himself awake here.

How did they keep me passed out for whatever duration of journey. Hmm, no matter. I know who did this to me. Now the question is, who has me...

He laughed aloud and shifted his body weight slightly as footsteps approached the room he was in; soon he would know.
It is not ours to question why, it is but ours to do and die
Hail Ceasar, we who are bout to die salute you!
Errrmmm.... Something or another, anyways?
