Defensive Alliances

Postby Reylan Talonspyre » Mon Jul 14, 2008 10:05 pm

Here is the deal, we were all trying to figure this out one night as a side adventure. What the hell is up with alliances?

Setting offensive support to Army gives a certain amount of offensive support from a kingdom. It is not necessary to know the exact details, but what I am more interested in is the Defensive Alliances.

Can my defensive troops be whittled down by allying defensively to another kingdom that is lower ranked than me?

Is there a limit to what types of kingdoms I can send alliances too, in other words, if I ally to a smaller kingdoms (say 200,000 NW below mine) does it still get a full amount of offensive/defensive support or is it proportional to the size of the kingdom receiving said support?

I have more newbie questions as well. Since everyone is so helpful ... I thought I would just ask.
I still think I would make a great pope.

I think it is proportional but unsure

I believe defensive support is only proportional relative to your size, but not to your ally's size. The 3mil NW King can support a 20k NW realm, making it hard to break, but once it's broken, the King will die switfly too.

Same goes for me. I thought it was proportional to one's own size and not the size of the supported party.
Makes more sense too.

Alliances work pretty much the same way they always have.

You select a level of support, that level equates to a percentage of your total troops which are added to the offense or defense of your ally.

So - for example - you pick an alliance level that is worth 15% and you have 5000 dragons. Your ally will receive 15% of those dragons added to their own totals.

The changes added for defensive allies were to reduce the amount of troops you lose. Previously once your ally was broken, a defensive alliance continued to kill your troops until eventually you were also broken as a side effect.

Unity alliances now work in such a way that the defensive alliance will only occur if you would have sucesfuly defended with their aid. If their aid is still not enough to defend you, the aid is not counted and the ally does not continue to lose troops

Wow, that makes them far more useful. Thank you.

That may change the way I set my alliances.

Can anyone tell me what actual % of support the different levels represent, i.e. army/patrol etc...?

I am not sure anyone ever explained them all.

I guess the better question is, instead of just giving them to us ... perhaps if we knew Massacre were the same levels ... we could then take some time to play some Massacre kingdoms and work them out.

If they are indeed at the same levels, count me in Shifty to help with that process.

I always love helping to number crunch.
